Yes, yes it is. Liverpool is basically one of Villa's competitors in the 2nd league.

Except despite what their fans might think, they're a long, long way off replicating Liverpools points tally in the league, especially now where it's going to be even harder because they've got to compete on more fronts.

And they're going to be more succesful by leaving an unhappy 15m asset rotting in the stands?

What on Earth makes you think it was a 15m bid?

Probably because we've had bids of 10m, 12m & 14m rejected previously. The next bid is going to be lower than the last bid that was rejected is it?

Numerous good sources reporting it.

Liverpool have acted fairly poorly in this transfer period and I have enjoyed the way that Villa have handled themselves.

I'm hearing this a lot.

How? We've made bids for players. That's against the rules now?

Please.

The only thing that could be regarded as acting poorly was Gerrard in the press having his say.

Yet a few days later a Villa player did exactly the same thing regarding David Bentley.

But it's big bad Liverpool, and poor little Aston Villa being bullied. Quite funny angle really. Predictable though :D

When you consider we've just bid for a player, and then MON has got narky about it.

Barry certainly isn't worth the 17m but neither was Carrick at the time and Man Utd ended up paying it.

May shock you to learn, we're not in a position to go around pissing money into the wind like United were/are.

Don't you think that the 2 statements you have made here contradict themselves? I highly doubt that your first offer was 10m but will say it is just for this purpose.

A team that doesn't have money to "piss away" has increased their bid by 5m in the space of what is it now 2 weeks? If you were Villa and a club just kept on lifting their official bids why would you accept it? Just wait another week and you will get what you want (17m in Villa's case).

Where did I mention Villa being bullied? Lots of stuff goes on very on that we are unaware of but Liverpool have been fairly open about what they are doing. Our captain (98% of the time) was overseas and suddenly asks for a transfer. 1 hour later there is an offer from Liverpool his boyhood club.

It was 10m. Thats how this saga started. "Liverpool make 10m move for Barry". This offer wasn't strictly cash, so it totalled to about 10m worth of cash + players.

The next bid was around 12m.

Except that the move is being funded by selling Xabi Alonso. I'm sure it started off as a way to make some extra money.... and now.

Where did I mention Villa being bullied?

Thats the general view of the press and the neutrals.

"Liverpool have acted fairly poorly in this transfer period" does imply that you're of this view too.

Liverpool have been fairly open about what they are doing.

The initial leak didn't come from Liverpool, Barrett went at length to stress that. He's not a journo that I have found to be anyones mouthpiece, so I'm inclined to believe him when he says that.

Appeared in the Brummie press about the same time anyway.

I'm still not too sure about what is going on with Keane. Sort of came out of the blue really.

Although I can't see Rafa wanting to screw Ramos over.

Not sure why we ____ing bother buying from England anyway. It's too much of a pain in the backside. Everythings a ____ing saga.

Please . A Tottenham fan giving lectures on ethical transfer activity is a bit like a lesbian teaching a lesson on how to suck a dick.

Dare I remind you of one John Bostock. Not only did you snap him up without Palace permission, you actually announced the deal on your website before you told Palace about the deal. Tottenham have been offering ridiculous money for Bostock and the like for a while now and leaving smaller clubs up shit creek.

Liverpool have handles themselves very poorly but you cant even compare it to what your lot did to Crystal Palace. Even Chelsea had more class and actually tried to compensate Palace for him. :thumbsd:

much like the danny rose deal

Looks like we are very close to signing Gudjohnsenn from Barca for around 4 million. Seems like he chose us over Newcastle. Smart move. I imagine he will get more gametime with us.

Anton is all but gone which is sad but if hes replaced by someone young and good then I wont mine. His attitude has always been poor despite his obvious talent

Anton is an interesting one, article the other day stating he wanted to stay... so who knows.

I think if the right offer comes in, we would sell him.

I thought the transfer spending of the 2 clubs was fairly similar or if anything Liverpool spending more in the last 5 odd seasons. I'm sure someone here remembers those figures that were doing the rounds quite a bit last season I cannot be bothered finding them.:p

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1031979/Crouch-way-Pompeys--10m-bid-wins-out.html

Peter Crouch finally landed his move to Portsmouth yesterday after the south coast club relented over his valuation and had a £10million bid accepted by Liverpool.

Throughout months of uncertainty over his future, the striker has insisted he would consider quitting Anfield only for Fratton Park, despite Tottenham offering £9m for him less than a fortnight ago.

His wish was granted when the two clubs struck an agreement last night over a deal that will be confirmed when the Football Association offices open on Monday morning.

Crouch was in jubilant mood after learning that Portsmouth had succeeded in a pursuit that was first revealed in Sportsmail earlier this year.

He made it clear he was prepared to run down the final year of his Liverpool contract rather than be forced into joining any other club, such was his determination to link up with Harry Redknapp and boost the ranks of England players at Fratton Park.

Shit source. But could have some substance.

Happy with that.

So when its all said and done Portsmouth are gonna look like... (assuming their other 2 targets sign on)

James
Johnson Distin Campbell Shorey
SWP Muntari Diarra Kranjcar
Crouch Defoe

Bench: Ashdown Kanu Diop Utaka Kaboul Mendes Pamarot

Thats a hell of a side.

haha, is it?

two average strikers.

swp.... need I elaborate?

two defensively minded midfielders with attacking qualities but nothing ridiculous.

kranjcar. a decent footballer. nothing more. needs lots of time on the ball and really doesn't have a career of any great substance to date.

a good defence and goalkeeper. which won't have changed from last season. that's what their success was based on.

you're overreacting - again!

Should be good enough for top 6. Think it will all fall together well. SWP is crap but hes okay for a team like Portsmouth and having someone who pushes forward well like Johnson may actually force SWP wide instead of central where he is as useless as a ____ flavored lollipop . Muntari and Diarra will ensure no one else touches the ball. Good defence. Crouch and Defoe will work well together. Certainly better then most teams outside the top 4

haha, you've got that completely the wrong way around.

SWP has looked far better for Chelsea when he's been used centrally.

out wide he was and is abysmal.

Crouch and Defoe won't work well together. They're both average players.

As much as you like to go off on tangents Bostock was 16 and therefore did not have a professional contract and was free to talk with any club. The deal like many many before will be decided by a tribunal.

Tottenham's record in transfer dealings is pretty poor but I really am astounded that you chose such a poor example to attempt to illustrate it.

You are assuming that they won't lose anybody too.

as soon as someone resembling a half-decent club comes calling Diarra will answer and be running/crying.

james is a 45 year old goal keeper.

at his age Sol Campbell won't be improving any time soon.

- lets not overrate Shorey either. I've watched him over the past couple of seasons playing for arguably the Premiership's second worst defence and I haven't seen much to get excited over. not to forget he's looked ridiculously out of his depth playing for England against average opposition.

Johnson can be very clumsy at times defensively. and against quality wide players he's just hopeless. and any time he's required centrally he's just a liability.

going forward he looks decent but has no weapons of substance.

and they're the only club after SWP - that says alot.

they need a winger. not a fast runner with nothing to offer a football side striving to get somewhere in the Premiership.

Crouch and Defoe are bigger club rejects and the reason they're all playing for Portsmouth is because the club is at their level. which isn't an endorsement/compliement.

I'd prefer Michael Owen any day of the week to Defoe.

Youngy confirmed it in the Confirmed Transfers thread, don't think it's been mentioned at all since it's completion here.

Miralem Sulejmani of Heerenveen has moved to Ajax who have blown the Dutch transfer record out of the water. He cost 16.25m Euros (12.8m Pounds)

Previous largest deal was Huntelaar moving from Heerenveen to Ajax for 9m euros.

Just another one of the Heerenveen striker production line, then. It's quite incredible.

Yep, said it before on here. Clubs that spend tens of millions on strikers would do well to spend a fraction of that on the Heerenveen scouts.

Looks like Carvalho is probably gone from Chelsea.

Most concerned at this news would have to be John Terry. Who's going to make him look good now? :)

yeah, let me just stitch my sides back together. ;)

John Terry has never played well alongside Alex/before Carvalho was there.... (which is obviously a mistruth but hey! why not?)

He might not be the best defender going around but he's still ____ing good.
And probably the bravest player in football. Like him or not he's earnt respect. Most footballers are scared and unwilling to put their body/head on the line as frequently and somewhat stupidly as he does.

Carvalho > Terry

Alex is good player though but you fear that hes a bit too similar to Terry in the way he plays. I wouldnt mind seeing how Paolo Ferriera goes centrally. We all know hes awful at passing but he can defend well enough
