Yeah, not the worst signing for Sunderland.

However;

4.5 million is way too much.
He's old.
Only one good season in the premiership to his name.
& he lacks concentration defensively - reasonably frequently.

A decent signing because he improves their team. Which isn't hard.

It also says something that no other clubs were interested in Chimbonda.

Tottenham did far better out of the deal but Sunderland have improved.

But ****, with the amount of cash Roy Keane wastes/spends that sorry lot of hacks would want to be finishing top 10. (and they won't)

First things first - the defence now needs to be catered to. As the keepers have been.
The Friedel & Guzan signings are quality buys for various reasons.

Villa next need to sign;

3 defenders - left back, right back, and a central+right sided player.
obvious three.

Ideally;

Miguel - 5
Shorey - 4
Hoyte/Finnan - 2

(And I'd like Kaboul to replace Knight as well - won't happen though)



Depending on whether Barry stays/goes Villa need to sign one/two midfielders.

And one striker.

That's assuming that only one player will leave. (hopefully less)

Anywhere from 4-6 still to be brought in.

I'm bored with the off-season and want the season to start but I also don't because not only would we have the smallest squad again but we'd have a world record small squad. (it would even be close)

Play Neville in defence and Fernandes will play midfield. Fernandes deal is in the bag.
