In the most predictable transfer rumour of the season, City have reportedly (according to SSN) made a £12m bid for Santa Cruz.

While I was happy with a £3m pricetag when we were linked with him last season, I'm a bit uneasy about paying £9m extra after a great year that might never be repeated. Particularly when another striker is not really a priority for the club in my books, right winger, central midfielder, backup keeper and left back much more important.

I doubt Blackburn will sell at that price anyway, but if we're prepared to pay £12m, I'm sure we'll be prepared to pay a few million more.

Interesting.

So does this mean Big Jo will be thrown out wide?

Pot.Kettle.Black.

You argue that we've spent nothing on transfer fees supossedly. Well haven't Spurs sold the likes of Keane, Chimbonda, Malbranque and now probably Berbatov? Wonder what their total transfer spending would be.

We don't "spend nothing". We would be in the top 5 for wage bills (blame it on AC). That is why ticket prices are probably so high, considering we can only fit in 35,000 a game.

I dont buy into that at all. If the wage bill is so high theres nothing stopping them from selling players. Anton rejected a new deal of 40k a week that would of trebled his wages. I cant see how we are in the top 5 of wage bills when our starting CB is on 15k a week. Rob Green is on very little too by the sounds of it

Have you thought about it being just propganda from BG and others to have a excuse not to spend anything. ATM Neill on 50k would be our highest earner now Ljungberg is gone. Nothing to wet yaself about there.... We have a MASSIVE squad and IMO the fact we have only sold 3 players is concerning...

I think Blackburn would sell him for 15 mill but not at this time. ITs too late really for Blackburn to find a capable replacement. January maybe. Still unlike McCarthy who I and most could see a mile away being a one season wonder I think Santa Cruz will be a bit more then that.

I would have thought if you're prepared to spend £31m on two players you'd be looking at having both play in the starting lineup. I just don't know enough about whether Jo could play on the right, but it's either that or we would be playing 2 up front.

I think they have a couple of capable replacements already in Roberts and McCarthy (disagree that he's a one season wonder, he scored around a dozen goals in all comps last season). I also rate Derbyshire and think he could step up if required.

It will come down to money IMO.

Did Blackburn ever actually sign Robbie Fowler or was that just a rumor? Ive forgotten. They are well equipped in the strike force but I guarantee any deal will involve Blackburn trying to nick a player or two of your lot. They need players more then money atm. Wouldnt be surprised if they tried to get Ireland involved in the deal somehow. They still need a RW

Still on trial, but I'd say a deal is likely.

Doubt they'll get Ireland (would eat too much into the Santa Cruz money), as far as strikers go we've got Jo, Bojinov, Vassell, Sturridge and Evans. None will be available for permanent transfer, they could probably get Sturridge or Evans on loan. Bianchi (currently injured) is the other one, I think he'd have to prove himself (and his commitment) at City before another English club would pay decent money for him. And if he does that I'd rather we keep him, because he does have ability.

Ince has been impressed with Fowler's pre-season - given he is the only striker not to have scored a goal I am not sure what he is basing that on. He will get a pay as you play deal but can't see him being any better than 5th striker.

Would need to be 20mn to think about it based on the market (Robbie Keane - 20mn + Berbatov 25-30mn) and with him having 3 years left on his deal and being 4th top goal scorer in the Premier League last season.

The supply last season from the Blackburn midfield was inefficient compared to other teams (even with Bentley) - put Santa in another side with a touch more quality and he will keep finding the back of the net and more regularly.

A bit harsh on McCarthy - he had an exceptionally poor year and still managed 8 goals from only 21 games - get him fit and playing the full season and he is quite capable of 15+ goals again which would put him in the top 10 strikers in the Premier League in terms of output.

hughes is a moron.

what a clueless idiot.

bojinov is an unknown but has looked impressive.
bianchi definitely has ability and playing alongside another striker (for perhaps the first time at Manchester City) he'll be much better off.
you paid 45 million for Jo.
vassell and calcido remain.

just stupid from hughes.

sack him and start over.

850 per season ticket and we are forced to put up with Ben Thatcher. Its easy for you to sit back, not outlaying a cent to support the club but those in England spend ALOT of money to watch this team play and we cant even spend 5 million pounds this transfer window...

We have the 3rd highest season ticket prices. Arsenal, well they have a brand new stadium and Tottenham, well they spend like crazy. Then us. We spend nothing and have no new stadium. If tickets were 600 pounds and BG decided to spend nothing then fair enough but he shouldnt be asking our fans to pay crazy ticket prices and then not spend a cent himself. Its insulting to the fans and by the boos Thatcher got it seems they arnt many that are as happy with the situation as you are

Cuellar for 7.8 million pounds is a BARGAIN. Best signing of the summer. He single handidly got Rangers into the UEFA Cup final. Will suit Laursen to a tee aswell

How the hell does Thatcher come into this discussion? Seriously. I did not mention him in my post.

Ok, the season ticket price is high, but guess what, people are still willing to pay for it, hence it is obviously not too high is it now?

I am sorry, but you continually point out issues you have with spending, but as far as I can tell they are all smart business decisions to stabilise the club for the future. I can live with them.

If you can not, **** off, go follow Manchester United, Liverpool etc, etc. Maybe you will be satisfied with the spending then.

Ha ha, the Mirror reckon Spurs are going to sue cause we're not going to sell Corluka to them.

Twats, anyone else I would think it's a bollocks story but it does have the hallmark of a Daniel Levy toys out of the pram job.

What a twat, so i'm assuming if Spurs don't sell Berbatov to Manure in the end then Manure can sue him as well?

Blackburn have rejected our bid for Santa Cruz, wouldn't surprise me if there was another one shortly.

Strange decision if Blackburn do decide to sell given they just spent the money to get his younger brother to the club

Boro have had a bid for Justin Hoyte accepted by Arsenal. Personal terms to be discussed in the next day or two.

Another CM and possibly a keeper also expected to come before the end of the window.

You know how it is with Spurs. It's a terrible crime against sport when United tap up Berbatov, but it's perfectly okay for them to tap up Juande Ramos.

Hoyte is solid but will get found out against the better teams. So not too fussed with that transfer.

He had a terrible preseason btw.

I haven't seen much of him, but he fits with the type of player Southgate continues to buy. Young, fast and with plenty to prove. Hopefully he does well. I think the fee is 3 million.

Its a credit to our fans that they are still paying those insane prices. Best fans in the land. I dont have a problem with the lack of spending just the reasons behind it. I think BG is trying to screw us over and so far hes done nothing to prove me wrong. He doesnt want the club. He wants Upton Park...

Who the hell is your first choce goalkeeper now. Its not that Turnbull bloke who played a few times last year. He was a calamity wasnt he?

Bellamy, Parker and Ashton would all be earning over 50K a week. The likes of Faubert, Boa Morte, Upson probably over 40K a week.

The figures are out there, you just need to research them. And yes we have a massive squad, because AC signed stupid fringe players such as Davenport and Quashie who are nothing more than CCC standard.
