NO TROLLS Transgender Discrimination AFL Lawsuit

Rugby Union has been addressing the issues from an international viewpoint:

& it has had some press locally:

As an outsider in the Union game I have to smile when considering the discussion about the male game at junior level being played not on age grouping, but on weight, as a result of kids physical development being relevant

NZ have done it for years. Lots of talk having it in Rugby League here too.

Some of the Islander kids are just huge. You cant have 80 kilo 12 year olds up against 40 kilo 12 year olds.

Honestly, if you were born a male you shouldn't be able to play womens sports, its incredibly unfair. Imagine if all the boys that didn't get drafted all of a sudden said I am a woman now, I am playing AFLW. You'd have basically another VFL comp.
That's just stupid. You think a bunch of failed footy players are going to pretend to be women well and long enough to convince doctors and specialists that they're transgender and upend their entire life so they can play in a d grade amateur sports competition?

Amateur body builders inject steroids in to their scrotum.

Humans do crazy things.

I don't think many men would do that. In fact I fully believe this person is a woman and sees herself as a woman. That is not the issue, the isuse is because she was born a man does she have an advantage over people that were born as women, and if the answer is yes she should not be allowed to play. It doesn't seem fair to her, but it isn't fair on the other women that she be allowed to play either.

So presumably half the people here ween't ok with Aaron Davey playing against Aaron Sandilands

I was speaking figuratively.

Mouncey's body still produces testosterone and requires hormones to control it.

The IOC went down the path of allowing weak rules for political reasons but has backtracked and has gone more sensible with longer term hormone requirements but I still do wonder if 12 months is not long enough.

interesting. After pushing more than its share of lefty causes, the AFL is about to get bashed around the head with one of the freakiest - that gender is a mere societal construct.

Gender is a social construct, sex is a biological construct. Gender and sex are too very different things.

The AFL has many other sports it can look to for precedents.

There are 2 main arguments:
Is it safe?
Is it fair?

I'd say the answer to both is a solid no for a full contact sport like AFL.

But its a complicated area which isn't an exact science and its a heated topic which many people hold strong beliefs about.

That's something that literally wouldn't happen anywhere but in your imagination.

This is an issue with some subtleties and complexities on social, biological and ethical levels. Giving ridiculous strawman arguments like this do nothing to help.

We've seen the damage men v men can do. They have a choice to do that though

The damage from men on women would be worse. And biological women won't get to have a say if they want to play against a man.

It will be forced upon them.

Of course all the boys wouldnt.

What if 22 did. And they all played for the same team.

But Hannah Mouncey is a woman (by the IOC definition).

If she is likely to cause "damage" to other players while playing in Women's AFL competitions, do you have any examples from her playing career for the Darebin Falcons VFLW side or for Ainslie in the Canberra competition?

It’s a can of worms. The women's game is growing so fast at the moment that something like this could halt momentum. I can see actual girls and their parents not wanting them to play against males identifying as females. The AFL has a duty of care to all female players now and into the future. Big call ahead.

They can say what they like.

Unlike movies in real life we don't have to suspend disbelief. Quite clearly it was a man.

85kgs hitting 55kgs will cause more damage than 60kgs hitting 55kgs.

I'm betting Mouncey was either a super bog average footballer with no great pace or they held back many times so they didn't hurt anyone.

Having played against women in a football style game you become acutely aware of just how much damage you could wreak if you went in full boar. That constant awareness means you're always holding well back.
