Transgender - Part 2

Please be aware that the tolerance of anti-trans language on BF is at an all-time low. Jokes and insults that are trans-related, as well as anti-trans and bigoted rhetoric will be met with infractions, threadbans etc as required. It's a sensitive (and important) topic, so behave like well-mannered adults when discussing it, PARTICULARLY when disagreeing. This equally applies across the whole site.

A good solid rundown on the transphobia that pervades these blanket bans and the people applauding them.

It used to be about the children. That was the hook.

Riley Gaines was upset at unfairness in swimming, she said.

Now has her own conservative organisation for protecting people "targeted by the left". The right doesn't target people, apparently.

"The left has used all its power to destroy the distinctions between women and men — eliminating opportunities for women, and silencing those who dare to speak the truth."

It was never about fairness, it was ideological opposition to the existence of trans people.

She's on her 15 minutes, doing tours and appearing on conservative media, trying to stay topical.

The chess ban is utterly ridiculous.

None of these people pumping up blanket bans care about women.

More in the video from people more knowledgeable than me.

I haven't actually seen any further discussion from the chess federation as to why they've done it, I'm intrigued why they're going down this path for what (on the surface anyway) you'd think would be a sport the least affected by physical differences between sexes.

It looks like it's for two years while they... I don't know what they will be doing.

Seems entirely unnecessary, and very suspect given they haven't even provided preliminary reasoning for it. The only gender differences I'm aware of in chess is a statistical difference in the number of women at the very top rankings, but I wouldn't have thought it was a significant enough of a difference to warrant policy changes.

Worth reading the report into what is happening in the community here in Australia with all the anti trans messaging online and in the media.

The rise in abuse and actual violence should be something nobody is happy with

These reports cause more harm than good. Not because hate doesn't exist, but because noone can agree on what constitutes hate.
Is it "I don't agree that children should be given blockers" or is it "no rights for them"

This isn't just on the trans issue. This is all issues, all isms, etc.

Explain to me how having actual data that shows the impact in the real world is more harmful than not having it

I thought that immediately: the people who are anti-trans rights will nit-pick about whether THEY think a post or comment is hateful.

Summed up my point a bit better than I did.
This is the point I was making though (hence saying it exists)

The average person knows there is hate out there.

As from my perspective. I was raised in the lbgt community, I've made that clear in many posts on this forum. I have a very close friend (one of my best friend) is trans.

I also think most of the trans hate is male to female, noone seems to care if it's the other way

their whole argument is that nothing they say or do is the problem though

the report isn't there for the anti trans brigade, its for everyone else to point out what is happening

One righteous v the virtuous. Shades of religious zeal by minorities desperate for mainstream relevance.

I think you'd find most trans people would just like to be left alone to live their lives without the constant attacks in the media and from politicians.

All of them would prefer to be able to walk down the street without being abused or threatened with violence.

Its the activists on both sides priming the pumps.

in response to you talking about religous zeal and desperation for relevance

which was in response to a survey that said trans people are experiencing more hate and physical violence than they were 3 years ago

why is your response to a minority saying things are getting worse for us to blame them?

My vague recall is that male players (at the highest level) have higher points totals so whether it is trying to preserve “women’s chess” as a thing idk. You are right that there shouldn’t be a difference in physical capabilities.

And there's merit in that. Unless you're a moral absolutist, you have to recognise that people have different standards, because of course they do. It's evident everywhere, all the time. Therefore the definitions of what constitutes an act of hate towards someone is up for discussion, and therefore so is the validity of the published results.

If a conservative think tank published a report on conservatives being victims of hate crimes or some similar thing, I am 100% certain those against them would question it in the same way.

Conservative think tank is an oxymoron.;)
