Mentioned in The Age that we are one of a few Victorian Clubs chasing Boak. Also in the Herald Sun it is said that we are looking at opposition lists for free agency in 2012.

How much would you pay Boak? What would you give up for him? What other targets would you want for free agency in 2012?

Personally I would throw the cheque book at Boak considering we are currently at 92.5% and there will be more senior players dumped this year bringing in only draftee payments. Throw so much money at him he cannot refuse.

jesus id lose the plot if we got him what a star
but reality is were unlikely to get him as port would demand a very early pick and probably a player this kid is hugely underrated in victoria

I heard this morning on radio that his asking price is around $450k a year. We have a good chance to snare him, would love him on our list.

interesting point made by Vader on the D&T board.

I can't find any indication that GC have any selections in the PSD at all.
Their impact on the ND is well documented, particularly the first round.
They also get the first 5 selections in the RD.
They've also signed 12x 17yo kids (one of whom has already turned his back of them and decided to play cricket instead).
They're able to list up to 10 players who have previously nominated for the draft, or were previously on an AFL list, but are not currently tied to an AFL club.
They are also able to sign 1 uncontracted player from each of the existing clubs.

Here's the article from AFL.com.au which spells out what they're entitled to. It makes no mention of the PSD at all.

I suspect that they won't be participants in the PSD, given the access that they already have to uncontracted players.

If Boak wants to leave Port AND no trade happens AND he doesn't want to play for GC AND he opts for the PSD rather than the ND, then he would probably find himself drafted by Richmond or Adelaide in the PSD.

That said, I think his manager is just looking to boost Boak's salary - it's not necessarily ethical to do it in this manner, but neither is it unexpected or without precedent. I'd be moderately surprised if Boak were playing anywhere other than Port in 2011.

Massive long shot but one can dream. I think the final point is the truth of the matter though. He's just trying to get more $$$ out of Port.

I'd say the only way we'll get him is via the PSD. Either we convince him to walk into it or we use that possibility to get Port to accept a deal on our terms, something like our second rounder plus Edwards springs to mind. They'll want our first pick, which we sure as hell won't part with, so hopefully they'll reject our counter offer and we get Boak for nothing. It all depends on selling the club to Boak, of course, but it would be a huge win for us and a massive step in the rebuild.

:thumbsu: Agreed, I think that he would be a fantastic pick-up. We have plenty of room in the cap to realise this trade. With free agency beginning soon and Benny Gale discussing Blair Hartley's role in opposition list anaylisis to encourage player movement towards the RFC, the brighter our future looks, the more likely we will be able to entice other quality players.
It would be nice to be seen as a club that players want to come to. New facilities (completed November), increased membership numbers and hopefully some more highly promising recruits.

He fits our needs (along with that of most other clubs!) and most importantly is in the right age bracket to mature with our current crop of keepables.

****ing Carltank will get him with their Visy Board money the cheating bastards.
Stuff it I would throw 600k-700k at him just to get him to our club. It's not like we need the funds in other places. Imagine a midfield of: Deledio, Cotchin, Martin, Boak, Foley

WOW>......

And imagine Deledio, Cotchin and Martin walking out the door when we can't afford to keep them because we are paying Boak too much?

PSD is the only option - I'd be very comfortable with our midfield if we got him - not that there's much chance of that.

Foley, Cotch, Martin and Boak - looks pretty good.

Would really free up lids to play HB without hurting in the middle.

Do you really think we're going to have salary cap problems any time soon?
Sean Burgoyne is getting $600,000 a year and look how the Hawks are flying at the moment with reports of bad team morale etc.
$600k is over the odds for Boak. We are trying to build culture at Tigerland. Not completely destroy it.

I believe we've front ended deals just to get to the min salary cap, which i don't like. bit like paying someone before they do the work. But it will certainly leave us money once free agency comes into play. Will another round of culls at the end of this year, more front-ended deals to players that are going to be around for the next premiership tilt will leave even extra money for paying some bucks for players at the end of 2012. I think Benny is onto this.

I'm not saying don't after him. That would be silly not to. I just don't want to see us paying players more than what they are worth, a la Jordan McMahon. Speaking of which that's $350k extra in the bank when we piss him off at the end of the year.

Boak would be well worth the big bucks. He is a very, very good player.

Tho according to the Free Agency rules, before the 8 year mark means trading is the only way to get him. (Well, we can rule that out atm), so we'd have to wait til the 8th year (around another 4 to 5 years, if i remember right) to get him by this means.

I'd suggest that we'd be looking at good players who have been 5 years at their club.

Didn't our opposition analyst come from Port Adelaide? If so he should know what Boak is worth and if he is worth going for.

I would really like to see us go hard after this one, a very good player, who while it's been reported is not unhappy at Port, might just find the go home to Victoria factor a major pull if the coin is also there. Interesting that he has asked his management to put of contract talks. We could definately offer him more than Port. At 92.5% cap, Jordie moved on at the end of the year freeing up his $350,000 a year, that would leave us with a ready made list spot and the means to write a nice fat cheque.
It would be nice to land a big fish!
