The only reason I think it would be worth contemplating is if Wood wants to go. The man wanted to be the 1st ruck which is why he moved to Pies. With the Jolly recruitment, he might just see his career slipping away at an age when he should be getting major game time.

In that instance, it would be a going concern.

But if we contemplate our ruck stocks, a serious injury to Jolly in 2011 would just leave us in all sorts of trouble. Fraser I highly, highly doubt would be able to string a whole season together, 16 games would be my expected return. So no Jolly, no Fraser and no Wood for 6 games signals danger to me. Leigh Brown would be the only option with pinch hitting from Dawes, unless we recruited a ready-made ruck with our 2nd pick.

As it is I think we have plenty of young, midfield depth:

Swan
Pendlebury
Ball
Wellingham
Beams
Sidebottom
Thomas
McCarthy
Cafe
Davis
Didak

It's early days, but Sinclair and J Thomas sound like prospects too.

But, as I said above, if Wood is determined to leave and Boak to return to Victoria, we are definitely in the box seat. Doesn't matter if Carlton wants Boak and Boak wants Carlton, it's what Port wants, and if Port wants Wood, then we can definitely do business with Wood and our late 1st round pick.

Definitely need to use pick 2 on a body-ready young ruck, whether in a trade or the draft.

But there's no way I'd be shopping Wood if he wants to stay. Judd is better than Boak, and just look at how Carlton have fared while neglecting key position players.
 
Haha. Some knob on the Port board reckons Boak would be worth a straight swap for Swan, god almighty.

Lol thanks for the laugh goose. Pendles is way better then Boak. Don't want him at our club we have enough young talented mids.

On paper, you would do it, but if Fraser retires then we have Jolly (29) who won't be around that much longer, and a few guys in the VFL who haven't done anything to suggest AFL is in their near future.

So no, we wouldn't trade our "third" ruck choice for a midfielder who isn't better than the ones we already have, or a small forward who's played about 2 really stand out games in his career.

I am not that keen to give much for Boak simply because we already have a good midfield and who would you take out for Boak to come in, our midfield is outstanding and i wouldnt want to see Boak take Sidebbottoms,beams or wellinghams spot. I rekon we should go after Robbie Gray because we have a few players up forward that are getting old such as Leon and Medhurst.

I think we would see Gray as a Small/Medium Forward but I agree I doubt Gray would leave

Stop overrating (port people in general along with your coaches) your players... the market will dictate what they're worth. Fortunately for us, we already have a very very good team with one of the better midfields in the comp - we also have some of the best smaill forwards playing currently and another recovering from injury....

As for Boak and Grey what have they shown over the last 3-4 seasons that makes them such "superstars" that they would command half a leg and brand new rolex in return....

I will be laughing at seasons end when you guys lose these guys for basically nothing because you yet again thought you were giving up gold instead of stainless steal.

How can you be so sure you wont after they have postponed contract talks and you ripping off hathorn doesnt mean burgoyne was worth pick 9 and pick 16.

based on what exactly - maybe combined because at least burgs proved in his career amongst the leagues best - ? i think you find the hawks trade as the biggest flop of the exchange period to date and unless he can get his injury riddled body right sometime soon the hawks look like being the big victims of an excessively overpriced trade..

Dont get me wrong I rate Boak but 2 first rounders (wood and a pick) is ridiculous... Im happy keeping wood as we have enough up and coming mids in our team...

Actually it was pick 9 and an upgrade from pick 24 to pick 16.

Not convinced they'd be worth more then Junior on the open market. Junior was a proven gun over many seasons but his age and injuries brought back the price.

Definite 1st round pick + a good player for Boak depending how high the 1st round pick was as to how good a player would be included). I haven't seen enough of Gray to estimate his value, but I'd shocked if he attracted the same value as Boak.

Yeah I agree would probably cost 1st Rounder + Player to get Boak. Would not do it but If we did what played would that be?
 
Boak and Gray will have approximately the same trade value. Good player plus first round pick.

The absolute market for player worth was set in the Chris Judd trade of 2007 and the Shaun Burgoyne trade in 2009. Start by scaling player importance and worth from there.

As always there's some good suggestions and some not so good suggestions.
 
Neither Gray nor Boak are as good as Burgoyne. They are younger. That has a positive impact on value to an extent but it is all based on upside so there is less certainty. For COLLINGWOOD, I would definately take Burgoyne ahead of them (subject to medical) because he is exactly what we need to add to our midfield. The other 2 would be handy but Burgoyne would tip our midfield into the absolute top end right now. It's too late to get Burgpoyne obviously but in terms of value to us he'd be a fair bit ahead.
 
A) We don't need him with a raft of talent coming through in the midfield.

B) In 2 years or so we are going to have some severe salary cap issues.

Pendles, Beams, Sidebum, Wellers, Thomas, Swan, Dids, Ball, JMac and then in the wings we have J.Thomas, Sinclair who are both highly rated by the club.
