Hate to be a disagreeable bastard Longwait but I think Cloke is clearly the best key forward in the competition.
He is a little out of form at the moment but I think that has to do with the speculation on what he is doing next year. The pressure is beginning to build on him.
He is not the best player by a long shot but i cant think of a better key forward at this time than him.
I wouldnt call Franklin a key forward but if you wanted to nitpick then Franklin is the one that might have him covered.
I class Franklin as a key forward and as the best key forward in the comp. Key forward for mine being a "go-to" player who can mark the ball or win the ball at ground level or create crumbing opportunities for his fellow forwards or mids. A key forward may not necessarily take the most contested marks or kick the most goals, but they must be able to do both pretty well. They are a big-man target up forward. Franklin is certainly that.
It's a judgement call Z - so I'm certainly prepared to concede that you can make a case that Cloke is the best key forward.
I don't think that we should be going for a $1M+ per season key forward, and if we are, I'd take Franklin at that price and no-one else of the current key forwards in the AFL. Franklin is more likely to win you a premiership than any of the other key forwards because he has a better all-round game and contributes more to the team than the other key forwards, not to ignore that he is the only one of them who has kicked 100+ goals in a season. Cloke hasn't come close and probably never will. Jack Riewoldt will be a better player over the next 5 years than will Travis Cloke imho.
