Cloke would be PERFECT. A hard working, powerful CHF to clear the space in our 50 - wow. But for 600k and not a cent more. I say if Melbourne are so keen to throw $1m a year at him then great, they should and I hope they get him.

Trying to think of another CHF of that type...... None spring to mind that are young enough.

Jon Anderson a journo with over 40 years experience and one i rate highly, and is not the usual rumor monger like Hutchie, Robbo and Barret had this to say this morning on his sports report

Is this just his opinion - or does he know something? Cause there's a big difference... I think we should go hard for Cloke too... Whether we will though, I doubt.

600K a year is not realistic. But I agree, 1 million a year is a joke. Somewhere in the middle would be fair. Match Collingwood's offer, with the 5th year - and appeal to his Old Man's Tiger heritage... Imagine Travis was the guy that brought the Tigers a Premiership???? That would make the old man proud...

Not sure. They often get things wrong, but also get it right. They spend so much time directly talking to clubs, managers, players etc they have a finger on the pulse. And as i said, as he isnt the usual spin journo, so it makes me think he might know something.

If he did sign, it would be the biggest signing in decades, and round 1 would be MASSIVE.

Although he is much maligned, he is the exact player we require but only at a reasonable price and not at the expense of other holes we have.
Lots of question marks in our list still.

No one will get him cheap. The Pies will just match the offer or he will leave and go into the draft and i doubt he would do that. No idea what the Pies are offering behind closed doors but i would assume 5 years at a minimum of 650+ would just be the starting point to get into the game.

This is exactly why I am sticking on the 'do not want' side. Want badly, but not at the cost of stability and depth.

David King is under the impression that the players wouldnt care if he was on heaps more than them if the team benefits and he helps getting them into finals. I still think all the key indicators and stats point to us being in the 8 now if he was at chf.

From what I have heard we are going after Chaplin (pretty much done) and are right in the mix with Cloke(closer than many think). If we land them the plan is to then target 3 midfielders with our first 3 picks to really bolster the engine room. Have also heard that Foley may not be around next year either, which would free up a heap of space in the cap.

Was about to like your post until I read the last sentence. Tigs is sad. :(

Foley would be a big loss... Is one of the vital cogs to our midfield. We could lose him as a free agent?, and i dont think we would get adequate compensation as he just hasn't played enough in the last few years.
We won't get anything if we pick up other FA's. They balance out the in's with the out's.
Yeah I wouldn't like to see Foley go... But if it means the other stuff happens, I can live with that.
If it meant we got a CHF and CHB then sure because we have been better at drafting smalls than talls recently and smalls take less time that trying to recruit a CHF and develop him.

600K or 1 Mill. Lets put it into perspective. Saving 400K might help renew the contracts of mediocre players like Graham, Jackson, McGuane and we end up with the same sh!t. Time to invest in some quality and go for Cloke.

I have been slowly coming around to the idea of Foley going. I love him and always have, but he's another who we can really only count on to play 10-15 games a year. Hard to carry that in one of your top contested players - especially if our seasons finally start to be 24-27 games long.

If we do land Chaplin and Cloke, where does that leave guys like Astbury, Post, Griffiths, Derrickx etc. I suppose getting those signatures would have to push at least one or two out the other side. You'd like to think that Griff and Astbury would survive?

Last off season everyone was saying Maric will be a handy back up until we can draft and develop a decent ruck, now look how he is revered because of what he has bought to the structure. If we land Cloke then this time next year he will be every bodys second favorite. Love to see him in yellow and black lining up against the Pies for the first time next year in front of 85-90k

Post Derickx bye bye I'd imagine. Post could be a trade for Jarrad Grant if that rumour is true. Can see why we are going for Chaplin. Grimes/Griffiths are in the Foley boat of can't get a full season out of them. Chaplin and Rance play nearly every game and hopefully we would have one of Griff/Grimes available each week. Astbury would be handy depth for either end with Cloke/Riewoldt/Vickery with Elton as the 4th forward.

He was on the radio Sat night and said the Doc who treated his hammys, his patient just before him was Usain Bolt. So he was in good hands.

Very interesting to see that Cotchin and Rance weren't against the idea of Cloke coming over to Tigerland. So i don't think team harmony will be an issue.

Post and derrickx ....gawn, im not sure anyone wopuld suggest we keep the cash to upgrade spuds like these, those two wouldnt be fit to tie up clokes bootlaces, but then again another thirty years of mediocrity is ok.

Yer, hopefully he is fine but he still has to prove it and I'm sure the club doesn't want to miss finals because he injures himself and we have no replacement.
