Who knows, but Healy said tonight on AW that the Tiges are in the box seat to get Cloke, Mathews agreed and also said we have so much to look forward to as our position doesnt reflect our ladder position. Pointed out in all our losses we have been on average 55% in front in all games.

I hope they are right. The figures I've heard thrown about are far from ridiculous but possibly out of Collingwood's reach. Add 3 genuine mids in the draft with Cloke and Chaplin and the team looks pretty good when you consider Foley, Grimes, Vickery being out of the side currently.

the thing is.. he would be worth 800Gs a year purely for another quality forward other than jack... and not to mention mentor roles for kids like Elton and Griffiths

Yup. And I'm content that it's not the Tigers who'll be paying overs amounting to $1mil+ a season. He's no Nick Riewoldt or Jonathon Brown, and certainly no Buddy. Any player who can potentially earn $800K a season and still not want to play for the jumper (particularly in his case Collingwood) and prefers to shop himself around the way he has, can only be disruptive to a club trying to build a culture, and at the same time keep the rest of its elite talent together. Just look back on Geelong's journey and at how they had built their dynasty.

Collingwood football club are no mugs, and if they saw real value in keeping Cloke at $1mil a season they'd have done so. Perhaps the rest of the league have not carried out their due diligence on Team Cloke and there's more to this than meets the eye? After all, history has shown that Carlton was justified in not holding on to the goal-kicking machine that was Fevola, albeit for totally different reasons. And remember, we're talking about due diligence here, not gambling and alcohol issues per se.

Anyway, only history will show whether all these $$$$$$$$$$$$ to sign up TC is really worth.

I get the feeling that this isnt all money based. Sounds like he doesnt get along well with Bucks and prefers to play under Malthouse if the rumours of them both going to Carlton are correct. It just doesnt seem logical why a guy getting paid so much at his only club who have won a premiership and are in their prime to win another, would leave over a few hundred g's.

There is no Guarantee these guys will get to anywhere near the level Cloke is at. I certainly don't want to pay $1 Mil for him, but the Tigers should do whatever possible (without hurting the club) to get him....

The potential with him in our team is enormous. I think we could skip a year or 2 more of being around that 6 to 10 mark, and become overnight Top 4 contenders. Isn't that worth paying a little over the odds for him? Especially when we've been so starved of success for so long.

He's only 25, he is about to enter his absolute prime. And he could well have another 6 years left in him...
