Would be a great advantage to have him on the field.
Hes a completely different player to Jack who pushes much further up the ground, something that we have severly lacked in recent times. He'd be the guy who would mark it 65 out from goal and pump it long to Jack to do his stuff. Would certainly be dangerous with Jack not being double teamed as much as Vickery would be able to play the 3rd tall which Miller/McGuane have played and would tear his opponent up with his aerial ability.

I guess the things we have to take into consideration is if we have to give up anything if he went to us. I havent paid much attention but could he go to us as a free agent?
I really dislike his father and wouldn't want him around the club but i guess that's something we have to weigh up. I really couldn't see Carlton getting him, how the **** would he fit in there cap with what he is asking for?

Why do you think all of this is such a big deal and quite realistic?? Not sure why people would even be commenting in this thread if they didnt know he was a free agent.

Not sure if I'm the only one , but I think it's a huge compliment to the club that Eddiechins has contacted the club to find out if we are interested in Cloke. He is obviously a tad concerned that we may be attractive to Cloke . I like Tugg hope we drive his price up only for him to sign and for us to grab another of their uncontracted players somewhere near their true value. .
Stuff Eddie .

probably but ed's ego is show huge he thinks everybody is beneath him.

On a purely on-field basis, he'd be great. Put him at CHF with Jack at FF. This means the one of them will get the second defender, which hasn't happened to either in a while. Would also advantage Vickery as he'd be in the FP with much less pressure to perform. He could also spend more time in the ruck so the Maric can get a rest and not be run into the ground. Any talk about Jack's ego getting in the way of this is completely wrong, he bleeds for this club and would do anything to get us into finals.

Although I suppose if we did get Cloke, Griffiths would be stuck down back which isn't the worst thing ever although I still see him as a forward down the track.

Free agent in that Collingwood would get compensation picks off us if we did eventually snag him.
Of course i ****ing know that Trav is coming out of contract by seasons end

I hope u made this up. Fair dinkum odds on what club he plays for.
Was quoted on tonights CH9 news.

On AW tonight Ralfy said the Tiges could push for a flag with Cloke, and Healy said the bonus would be Vickery being the third tall would blossom.

Consensus from them all was if it wasnt the Pies the Tiges would be next in line, especially with so many still involved with the club close to Cloke.

He is a restricted free agent, so the Pies have the right to match any offer from other clubs, then Cloke would have to either accept it or or enter the draft.

I think it's fair to say that with the Pies bulging at the seams in regards to the cap, there's no way they will be able to match any other club's offer when they are already offering $800k a year. Make no mistake, if Cloke rejects Collingwood's offer, it's exit stage left for good.

Not of us. Off the AFL we dont actually hand over picks

And we have said on numerous times recently, because of the fighting fund we now have that "War Chest" so we will have the dosh. But even if it isnt Cloke, i get the feeling we will be aiming to grab a biggie.

I know Chaplain isn't a 'biggy' but I think the benefit of having him would be more than people may initially think.
We were beaten for one reason on Sunday - Drew Petrie. And when Tross started getting towelled up by him, who did Dimma have to go to him? McGuane or Post. Sums it up. With Grimes injury prone, another key defender becomes paramount. We suddenly look a LOT more stable with Grimes, Rance and Chaplain back there.
I am on record as saying I don't want Cloke. But if we land Cloke AND Chaplain, finals become a forgone conclusion and we can start thinking even further than that.

Well lets hope we dont go for a "biggie" this year. Because there aint no bigger biggies than Cloke. If we dip out, I would throw some weight towards Montagna and thats about it. If we dont get our man, then dont get a man, for the sake of it.

That and a few draft picks in top 30 on mids and we'll push a flag quickly.

Id like us to seriously look at it. We cant hold onto the "we are young" line after this year. Next year we have to step up, so why not get a big forward that will help us out. Jack is better than Dawes and a three pronged attack actually helps a lot in our ruck stocks as well. Move Vickery into playing more ruck time and we dont have to rely on the spuds of old in McGuane and Graham.

The last time we played the trade game with Collingwood it almost destroyed us, so that might be where the jinx came from and the only way to break it is to play the game with them again.

In any case ive waited 30 years...but Richmond has always been entertaining. Making Eddie crack the sads and target us would be good for football and kick start us being hated again...how it should be.
Hagar love it

Would love to have him but would hate to see us pay more than we pay anyone else on our list for him if we throw so much at him, whats dusty gonna say when his contract comes up? Or Axel this year, or Rance, so many on our list growing as players who will demand higher salary we have to be aware of that otherwise we will be raided by everyone paying cloke excessively i believe would be a huge mistake.

Not to mention that eddie will almost certainly try to exact vengance on us by stealing someone.

Also, we shouldn't be taking shortcuts if this is the step we need to go to the top fine, but if this is just a shot to get us a little higher i'd rather we don't, sustained building for sustained success and the elusive #11

Just on that highlighted part here is something for everyone to stew over:

B: Newman Rance Grimes
HB: Houli Chaplin Morris
C: Grigg Cotchin Deledio
HF: Martin Cloke Ellis
F: Edwards Riewoldt Vickery
R: Maric Conca Tuck
INT: Batchelor Dea Foley Nahas
EMG: Griffiths King Jackson

Might come across rather one eyed but if that was our starting lineup round 1 next year, we'd be fairly short odds for the top 8 and would be in with a real shot at going deep into September. Its about time we got a bit of arrogance and mongrel back and went about making this club the one that everyone wants to play for.

The length of the contract he wants is the big deterrent, I would give him 1.6 over 2 years over 2.8 for 4 for example.

I don't like his baggage at all but the bloke can play CHF.

How could anyone justify paying Cloke more than Cotchin? He is a good player but not worth the coin that he is asking for. It is things like this that upset the other players and destabilise the club.

5 Years is a long commitment too. It is easy to understand why the Pies have taken the stand they have. They know he's not worth what he is asking for, he is just holding them to ransom. If we could get him for 3-4 yrs for $700k pa I could live with that but anything more is overpaying.
