You could spend $1m on Cloke for say 50-60 goals and the chance to divide your club.

The thing I don't understand is people using Cloke's goal tally as a reason to not try get him. He plays his best footy as a high CHF using his superior workrate/strong marking to beat his opponent. He's not going to kick goals from up on the wings. However, he does have the ability to slot them from 55-60m. If he kicks 50 goals which he is more than capable of he will be doing his role as it should allow Jack to get 65+ on the 2nd defender and Tyrone 35-40 on the 3rd defender. That's 7-8 goals a game on average before you factor is guys like Cotchin, Deledio and Martin and the small forwards crumbing these guys. His real asset to the team will be pushing up onto the wings and giving us that link we are missing between defence and Jack at FF.

Edit: For a marking comparison. The great year Jack had where we could sit back expecting Jack to mark everything that was near him. He had 123 marks at an average of about 5.6 per game. This year he has taken 74 at an average of 4.6 per game. Cloke in the meantime has supposively had a relatively poor year but has taken 94 marks at an average of 5.9. Last year he took 192 at an average of 7.7 whilst kicking 69 goals.

Now I'm just reading between the lines of what Craig Cameron said yesterday but I took it as we can afford to match the reported figures of the Melbourne and Freo offers but it sounded like we'd rather sign him up for less money. Nick Riewoldt is 30 this year and on just short of 1 million. Personally I'd rather give him an extra year or 2 for less money. Try get him for say 6/7 years on 700/750k and pay him 1million in the first year or so as to get majority of it out the way. That way Trav gets his big contract. We get a gun CHF and when others come asking for a similar pay rise its only 700-750 per year and we aren't having to pay multiple players 900k-1mill per year. Added bonus we wouldn't have to negotiate another contract with his dad.

Lets say we offered him 750k per year for 6 which totals 4.5million. Pay him 1 mill first 2 years. Which leaves 2.5 for remaining 4 years so doesn't bust our cap open. Maybe pay him 750k for the next 2. Then 600k then you only owe him 400k by the last year.

How do you know he'll say know. It's 800k more than Collingwood without the performance clause plus he gets an extra year (gives him stability till pretty much end of his career). What do you mean if he can't do it at Collingwood? His form isn't even that bad this year. He's taken 20 more marks than Jack. Leads the league in contested marks and has still kicked 35 goals. He's not a FF. He's a leading CHF. Then you look back to last year when he dominated. Gotta love how people think he's a dud. Probably need to watch some more Collingwood games.

We also paid peanuts for Cousins. But who was taken with the pick directly after we used ours on Ben? Tom Rockliff, that's who.
While the Cousins pickup was not a disaster by any means, I would hope the club has learned that getting in players for one or two years just isn't worth it in the long run.
As I type, Cousins is spiralling into an abyss and Rockliff is...well, quite frankly a gun and will be for the next 7 or 8 years.

I think Jack is probably worth up around that 700k mark if he can find his 2010 form again and I think Travis would help that. He himself would have better help in our forward line than theirs. I can't see the Pies upping the offer to keep him. If talks have broken down, Cloke either reconsiders and accepts the original offer that was made to him and swallows a bit of pride (something he should do, but Damir Cloke won't want to do) or he walks.

So Tigs I guess my point is , I agree if we are to play Cloke somewhere near 1ml Jack should recieve around 700k.
Martin would probably demand somewhere near that and I'd suspect Cotchin likewise. Can we fit 4 blokes on 700k +, with Lids already on around 600k as a developing side an continue to build depth. I am very much of the opinion that our best 22 is very very close to being a top 4 side. The issue is soon as injuries come we tapper off badly, adding Cloke is only going to add depth in area, it still isn't going to assist our midfield depth , should a Cotchin, Tuck , Martin get injured , or a KPD goes down.
Ivan, or one of Lids, Cotchin, Martin or Foley go down we are still in the shit regardless of if we have Cloke sitting at CHF. Cloke's not been grerat this year but COllingwoods midfield depth has seen them to continue to be a good side. Likewise Geelong haven't had dominate KPFs of recent times , but they've had remarkable midfield depth.
