Very interesting to see that Cotchin and Rance weren't against the idea of Cloke coming over to Tigerland. So i don't think team harmony will be an issue.

Cause these 2 guys are quality - and want success. If winning a premiership is our priority - none of them should have a problem with Cloke coming to the club... They should all be excited about it.

From what I have heard we are going after Chaplin (pretty much done) and are right in the mix with Cloke(closer than many think). If we land them the plan is to then target 3 midfielders with our first 3 picks to really bolster the engine room. Have also heard that Foley may not be around next year either, which would free up a heap of space in the cap.
big claim deep throat .. oh i meen RT73 :p

would be a fun and long of season if so

That all sounds good RT - I was initially against chasing Cloke but if he genuinely wanted to come (and not just for mega bucks), I think he would take our team up another massive level. I still have strong faith in Vickery but if we had Jack the stay at home FF and Cloke roaming the 50 arc taking strong marks, then Vickery can spend more time in the ruck (helping Ivan who might be getting tired from carrying the ruck mantle single handedly all season) but also drifting forward to be a 3rd avenue to goal. Those 3 talls together would make any defence nervous.

Chaplin down back to help sure things up and provide a mature head and body will help big time especially with most of our young talls being inexperienced (besides guys who might very well be past it in Moore and McGuane, the most experienced key tall is Rance at 61 - Chaplin has more than double that with 139). Does anyone know if he has any leadership ability? With Newman getting on a bit, our defence really could use a calming, experienced older hand (that used to be Moore's role sadly).

Also happy for us to target mids with all our early picks. A bit worried by the bolded part though RT. Do you mean Foley may hang up the boots due to his injury history or do you mean he might entertain and possibly move to another club as a FA?

I always thought Foley was happy with us? IIRC we gave him a chance off the rookie list and stuck by him through all his injury worries. He was also part of the leadership group and on a few roar vision videos last year. I'd be very sad to see him go though if we can get an equally good replacement who is more injury resistant, that would help ease the pain!

For mine, this is the biggest factor. I don't want to pay Cloke huge money but if the playing group are of the consensus that he would add to our team and help us progress towards flag 11, then that is a sign that we should seriously consider chasing him.

Especially when a utter professional like Cotchin seems to have no reservations about Cloke being a perceived mercenary/detriment to the club's culture and direction. If it's okay by Cotch, it's okay by me :thumbsu:

Rance was funny when asked. He basically responded it would be great to have Cloke as he wouldn't have to worry about playing on him.

Its interesting RT, the other thing i have heard in the Cloke saga is that Carlton are a decent chance with Cloke if Malthouse comes over to coach. I should also ad i have heard Jean Pratt is a big fan of Paul Roos. C4 may be able to say if what i have heard is BS or not.
So thats the other side of it as well.

Was about to like your post until I read the last sentence. Tigs is sad. :(
From the talk I'm unsure whether its an early retirement because of the injury, which has basically screwed his ankle/achillies or if we're going to lose him to GWS. Personally I would rather we lost him to the injury, than have him be looked after by us for 2-3 years and then walk out.

Those who have been around a while should know that I'm not one to post crappy rumours. The person who told me this rarely steers me wrong and their info is usually spot on. In fact often knows selections and late changes well before they are announced. As such I trust them enough to pass the info on to you guys.

The week before he went out Doc Larkin said he seen him at training and it looked like a flair up of the old injury, and was probably season ending and maybe career ending. A week later he was correct and was out for the year, but i hope he got it wrong about his career.

That's what I assumed you meant. No way he'd walk out now. Early retirement due to injury would be it. That'd suck.

haha though if I recall correctly, Rancey towelled up Cloke when we played them? I get his point though, one last power forward for him to deal with :D

I knew what you were doing, just used your post to explain to others where my info comes from.

The prospect of losing Foley sucks, it really does, but from another perspective one could say... What did we invest in him originally? A rookie pick. The payoff from that has been huge regardless of where his career goes from here. If losing Foley frees up some cap space and allows us to land Cloke or Chaplin (or both) then it wouldn't be the end of the world, especially if we pick up his alleged successor Ben Kennedy in the 1st round this year, followed by some more mids.
