Collingwood's original deal was around the $780,000 mark (with media commitments to bump it up).

That was the deal that the Cloke camp baulked on .... I'm not sure that the same deal (money wise) will still be there come October.
 
He'll probably sign after the last round and they'll head into the finals bouyed by Cloke's signing.....can see it now.

I think the $800k mark isnt really the problem with the Pies-Cloke deal its a combination of years (clokes want 5) as well as no incentives on performance targets that they dont want

Not sure if I should be resurrecting this thread or not given that everyone is talking on the 'gossip' thread.

Personally I think Cloke's value will have gone down over the past few weeks. His form has been fair at best. By signing everyone else, Collingwood
is leaving little in the bank for Cloke. Normally you'd think the strategy would be sign the gun player on $x and then if lower grade players have to be shown the door then that's the price of keeping the gun player on your list.

It looks like the opposite might happen, with Cloke being obliged to take a lower deal or else slink off to another club. Unfortunately for him, his form has slipped which has to make you wonder which is the 'real' Cloke, the guy taking all the contested marks and kicking goals, or the one running around and like he's got two left feet.

I think everyone's got carried away because since the year dot, Travis was always going to be the 'best' Cloke, before he had even played a game. Add to that the high profile that every Collingwood player gets and you get a player whose profile is higher than his actual runs on the board. Shit, we saw the same thing when Tarrant burst on the scene. He was going to be the next big thing (remember all the contested marks he was taking), until he went to Freo and suddenly he became just another utility. I can't help but wonder if it's the same with Cloke.

Personally I am happy to have Riewoldt and Vickery as our key forwards and hope that Astbury or Griffiths come along and compete for the key forward spots. Spending big on Cloke really doesn't seem like a wise decision when his form at the moment is pretty average. I also question whether he is the player we most need.

I can see many clubs chasing him because many clubs have no decent key forward stocks. But we have a Coleman medalist in our side already, and with a bit of luck he'll be a dual Coleman by the end of the year.

If we are going to play the Free Agent game, I think there are better options for us to be chasing.

I always thought 'killing it' meant doing well :)
To half time he has 5 kicks, 4 handballs and no score...
Maybe he is tanking so he can get sent somewhere else??? ;)
 
Wow Cloke is really playing ordinary football at the moment. Whether we chase hard for Cloke or not, I think we need another good forward.
