If Varcoe has another ordinary week this week (and even as a varcoe supporter i reckon it is coming) this thread will melt.

I think meto and son of meto might've done a Thelma and Louise with the news TV is playing

HAHA! LOVE IT!

Dude, I know you are trying to make a point, but don't put that kind of crap on our site. Very distasteful.

Yeah, I went a tad overboard. I just felt like screaming in some faces, and a pic of the unruly mob burning down the windmill at the end of Frankenstein just wasn't gonna cut it in this instance.

Apologies to all.

I don't think he deserves to play in the one's this week but I can understand the rationale of why they're keeping on playing him. If his form picks up for the finals he has x-factor that we'll need. If his form stays shite as it currently is then surely they'll have to drop him. But who knows. The MC are hard to predict.

Love the lad but he's on borrowed time at the moment. Needs a couple of big games if he's to hold the spot he's got right now.

do you mean in terms of holding his spot in the current side or long-term at the Cattery?

I would be surprised if Varcoe is not shopped around at year's end. The only question is if he will have any takers (in Adelaide) with 1 year of a very large contract to run.

Not questioning the guys ability, love him as a player, but I understand he agitated to go home last year.

I would be keen to try and arrange something involving Yarran, if Carlton are moving him on, so we have a like for like replacement.

What makes you say that? I don't recall any rumours last year.

In any case his value is at his lowest now, so trading him is silly.

Given he's under contract, he'll be here next year.

Might be back in the vfl soon though if his form doesn't lift, but either way he'll be here next year.

Trade talk is ludicrous because regardless of what we think he's worth no club would give a pick in the first two rounds.

Would be lucky to even get a 3rd round pick. He's injury prone and even when he was fit fairly inconsistent. At the same time he is worth much more than that too us especially if he finds some form at some stage.

In summary Varcoe has poor market value so is of more value to us on our list than not. Given the rookies we have to upgrade at years end we wouldn't even get a pick we could use for him.

Hmm.. You are 100% correct.

I couldn't believe the results of the poll attached to this thread, then I realised that many here are 'sponsoring' him. So many on here are just either delusional or one eyed.

On the open market, on current form and with his lack of speed and physical condition, he's be worth almost nothing as a trade. As a free agent he would probably get picked up, that's it.

At least Christensen is back this week, who's already achieved levels beyond what Varcoe ever did or could. Pity the coaches thought he wasn't worthy of an immediate AFL recall and we had almost no ball winners last week. I've never seen CS tearing shreds off of Varcoe on the bench either, ever. The guy is padded very tightly with cotton wool at the club.... obvious.

Yeah.
The vast majority are wrong.
Coach is wrong.
Match committee is wrong.
Just you and Meto and a couple of others being very right in your little corner.

Varcoe's touch is atrocious at the moment. He is running around like he did in 2007. Its getting concerning now.

should have played him on a small forward imo. Set him a task of keeping his opponent to under 2 goals and get him to stay there instead of roaming around trying to find form.

Should hold his spot though, 2nd most tackles on the day so defensive pressure is there but just not getting the touches at the moment.

Right, and they will come. 6 weeks after coming back from what he did, his confidence in tackling is there, the rest will flow.

Doesn't matter how he plays, C Scott will find a place for him in the seniors.. He's played all over the ground this year, had no impact anywhere..
I think CS is just trying to play him into form. He's tackling OK, moving quickly but just not impacting games like we've seen him do. The problem is if Trav finds the form that we know he is capable of, then some here will look a tad silly for writing him off now. I suggest we just wait and see what happens as it's obvious the MC see him as part of our finals and that's why they're persisting with him.

The bigger problem is if he doesn't find form. TV is like Geelong's icing on the cake when he's in good nick.
THunt didn't find form and has been dropped. Hopefully TV can find it before the same happens to him.

Ok, so what you're saying is you have no opinion yourself, you'd prefer to walk along with the herd? If I cared about being put in a 'little corner' by some ignoramus like yourself, you think I'd throw my opinion out there, knowing it's not going to be popular? Pffftt... baaaaaaaaa..

The coaches were right in playing T.Hunt in disgusting form for weeks before dropping him were they?

The coaches were right in bringing West back?

If they stick with Varcoe and he maintains this form into finals, which is likely... Good decision?

Of course they make mistakes, they'd admit it. I have no issue with that. When the same player continually underperforms though, you don't think it warrants discussion? Especially when the VFL side is obliterating the competition?

I think his pace AND engine are both way, way down. His tackling has been great though. At his best he was much leaner too, looks like he's got some extra pounds on the hips, which is slowing him down. I'd rather seem him first to the ball more too, tends to wait and tackle instead.

When you see both Christensen and Motlop having such influence on games... even Stokes at times, you know where the yardstick is at. Varcoe's a fair way off. Waiting week after week for him to find form is rubbish, as it was with T.Hunt.

And today, we brought in some VFL guns like Walker, Stringer, and they showed similar traits- exceptional attitude and desire, but lacking in the real class you need to win finals.
And Brown is killing it in VFL. Can't stay in.
Stick with a proven game changer with class, X factor, goal sense and elite disposal. He is worth persevering with. Right now, his forward pressure acts / tackles is great. Wait til he gets his touch back.
