And today, we brought in some VFL guns like Walker, Stringer, and they showed similar traits- exceptional attitude and desire, but lacking in the real class you need to win finals.
And Brown is killing it in VFL. Can't stay in.
Stick with a proven game changer with class, X factor, goal sense and elite disposal. He is worth persevering with. Right now, his forward pressure acts / tackles is great. Wait til he gets his touch back.

I agree with you, I'd like to see some more from him though, especially next week and against Sydney. He needs to work a bit harder to get more of the footy. Time will tell I suppose. I can't see him losing his spot... Varcoe is obviously seen as a bloke who actually loses confidence if dropped and may never get back to his best. Fair or unfair.

I guess if Chappy gets a chance, Varcoe would be the spot I'd like to see him take.

Waiting week after week for him to find form is rubbish, as it was with T.Hunt.

Well take it up with CS & the MC as that is what they're doing. The only way to find form is to play. Whether that's in the VFL or the AFL that is up to the MC, not me.

Next week on that large ground, he and Motlop could have real fun.

Cant see them rushing Chapman back to fly over West. Bring him back the week later if he is in form

Scott made a point of saying last week that in their planning for his return they don't see the trip to the West as a problem, "not" he hastily added "that he's a certainty to be picked for that game". ;)

Ok, so what you're saying is you have no opinion yourself, you'd prefer to walk along with the herd? If I cared about being put in a 'little corner' by some ignoramus like yourself, you think I'd throw my opinion out there, knowing it's not going to be popular? Pffftt... baaaaaaaaa..

The coaches were right in playing T.Hunt in disgusting form for weeks before dropping him were they?

The coaches were right in bringing West back?

If they stick with Varcoe and he maintains this form into finals, which is likely... Good decision?

Of course they make mistakes, they'd admit it. I have no issue with that. When the same player continually underperforms though, you don't think it warrants discussion? Especially when the VFL side is obliterating the competition?

Actually, I thought it was reasonably clear that I was putting myself in the camp of majority opinion that
Varcoe is worth persisting with because his upside is considerable. That does not equal 'no opinion'. Although perhaps an ignoramus might think so.

Coaches don't necessarily make mistakes in persisting with players. If the players don't get back to their previous levels (after injury) it's more the player's fault. You could argue that they should come back from injury via the reserves. But heaps of players haven't had to do that and it has worked out okay.

I don't think that Varcoe will play finals with this level of form. He needs to improve and he's being given every chance to do that.

The reserves playing very well is irrelevant in AFL terms. Stringer was one of the best in the reserves, got elevated, and hardly fired a shot today.

And, finally, Pffftt... baaaaaaaaa..
Not sure what it means, but apparently it is significant for you.

Off topic but was Menzel even good? If not why not just trade him? even if injured.

You mean Daniel Menzel ?
If so yes he was very good.He kicked 28 goals in 2011 before his injury in the finals.

If Chappy gets 20 possessions and kicks 3 tomorrow surely Varcoes selection would be in jeopardy?
But who can tell with him?

I'd be staggered if Varcoe was able to play decent football in the finals.

He plays the game at the margins even when he is at his brilliant best, an out of touch Varcoe is no value at all.

I am a little concerned with the faith being shown in him. Hopefully Chapman's return will see him eased out. They surely won't go with two underdone players and Chapman is different class.

clearly asked a question, unknowing if he's good, so of course i'd wonder why not

Prior to the first knee injury, Menzel was in the process of a break out season and trouncing the shit out of Hawthorn, a week after handing Collingwood their arse to them on a plate battered and bloodied. He was on a very steep upward trajectory that sadly may never be reached again, assuming he makes a full recovery from this current operation.

6. Travis Varcoe might need a spell back in the VFL
The speedy half-forward looked in great touch during Geelong's early-season wins over Hawthorn and North Melbourne. But he spent 12 weeks on the sidelines after copping a serious shoulder injury in round three against Carlton, and since returning he has struggled to have any impact. Varcoe had just eight touches in his comeback game against Melbourne in round 16, then only four a week later against Adelaide. He was better in the Cats' win over St Kilda in round 18, but his past two outings against North Melbourne and Port Adelaide were average at best. - Adam McNicol

Media's eyes are on Geelong

Tom Hawkins
Taylor Hunt - Robbo criticise him and said 'what's wrong with Taylor Hunt after injury his form isn't good, Geelong need him specially in the finals'
