Opinion Travis Varcoe

JubJub and the other Varcoe disciples usually club together at such times when their idol comes under scrutiny, they do their best to control the forum, been going on for years.

But to focus only on the negative, as so many of you do, is not the key figure either.
Why could he not get near the ball in Q1?
How many times has he blitzed in Q1, then faded out of games for even 2Q? Then attack again in Q4. That has happened. Some just love to get stuck into him and are marred by his poor Q, and disregard any semblance of improvement.
If he was a 4Q player, he wouldn't be Travis Varcoe- just what he is you'll have to accept while MC sees him good enough for best 22.

He still offers quality possessions, and does things that the antagonists choose to disregard, and he OBVIOUSLY has a role in our team that has not been appreciated by many of the BF experts. Gut running.
Not all players can do it , and at times, Trav has been less than effective, but at all times, he is trying.

Why not do a Trav Cam, and watch him, and only him, for a single game this year, and actually see what he is doing, what his role might be, if you don't know.
Then watch the game on replay if you're pissed off at having done Trav Cam.

You think CS of all coaches would tolerate a player who does what you suggest?
You think TV has some hold over CS that allows him to play despite wimping out on contested ball?

I don't like saying anyone's a wimp, that's why I left it to last but I see it clearly watching him play, maybe I'm hallucinating but I don't think I'm on my own here.
Possibly CS is told we need his run and carry, and all the crap that goes with that stuff, but not much good if you're only getting it 10 times.
He managed a couple over the back last week (good), but it's his non-involvement in the contested that shouldn't be tolerated imo.

You're the first person who has accused me of not posting my opinions...I post my opinions regularly…it's not my fault you don't read them. Perhaps you're too busy reading your own?

By labeling others who don't share your views on subjects as "clueless" indicates you value your own opinions very highly. It's possible that there's a number of people on here who value your opinions almost as highly you do, though I wouldn't wish to speculate on just how many that number represents.

I'd prefer to refrain from indulging in puerile name calling. It adds no weight to mature discussion of issues in any forum I'm aware of. Just my ……opinion :)



Oh…..and thanks for the English correction btw..:oops:…unusual for me to miss such an obvious error. (auto-correct maybe?)…..I appreciate that such important issues on a football forum shouldn't be overlooked.

Beserker26 was one goal out….crucify him.

So Varcoe has kicked 8 goals so far this year…….so if he maintains this rate (even though he is playing like shit according to the anti-Varcoe circle jerkers) he would manage 22 goals through the H&A matches. If our coaches can lift his performance and conversion ( because even his detractors, or at least some of them see there is improvement in Varcoe) he could end up kicking say 30 goals for the season.?? Lets hope he can.

An earlier poster suggested that with the return of Motlop and Christensen, Varcoe could be best exploited as a small defensive forward who can kick goals. That's probably where he can do his best work.

Scott hinted that personnel would be looked at over the coming week. If that is the case, Varcoe's place in the team will be looked at, and his KPI's assessed. We don't know here what they are, but if he hasn't met the expectations of the Coach and MC, then he will indeed be sent to the VFL to improve the skills necessary to meet the role they want him to perform.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Was put up for trade and attracted little interest- what does that say?.

he runs past the ball too often - he doesn't keep it in front of him (football 101) you don't see that reflected in stats. His run and carry is becomming less important now because I don't think he is as quick as he once was. He's a good kick for goal - that's a plus but in my mind one or two decent games a year is not enough to carry him through the rest. Has he ever been in the best 3 on the ground - ever had a brownlow vote?

I don't doubt he tries hard - but I agree with most punters here that suggest he shirks the contest too often - and in the modern game you cannot have players that do that.

He needs an extended stay in the VFL.

Exactly. If all the criticisms were "Varcoe is shit" etc. it's a valid point. But pretty much none say that. Most if not all are simply saying he should have to regain form in the VFL just like any other player should. The problem is, it now seems that there's a glass ceiling with some players will simply never be dropped. That's can't be a positive thing.

If Varcoe played the next 2 games in the VFL, and got 30 touches both weeks and kicked 2 goals (or something similar), I'd almost insist he comes back to the seniors. But for some reason, to even suggest he might have to join others there results in hysteria and childishness.

Every player should be subject to scrutiny. Every player should be critically analysed. Without exception. A guy called JOEL COREY played VFL last year. I'm sure he could have come straight back to the seniors, but he probably realised he needed the hitout and was professional enough to do it without fuss. If he could do it, so can anyone else.

Wasn't on the ground till there was only 5 1/2 mins left of the first qTR. HAD TO WATCH THE REPLAY AS WAS CONFUSED ABOUT THIS MYSELF.
