Best way to describe the two is the above

Harry will break a pack and run away probably spraying it

Varcoe will get given the footy and hit a lead up on the chest

Both have negatives and positives but we need blokes hitting targets which Varcoe can do
 
No question he is soft but we don't need 22 hard at it, no holds barred players in the team.

Quite happy for Varcoe to be on the end of it and use the footy.

Just needs to get on the end of it a bit more.

Was an average game for mine
 
I didn't think he was great. If he performs like he did last night over the space of a few weeks, I hope there's others pushing for his spot.

Agree - We have plenty of Hard At It Players. Need a Few Outside Guys with Class

Also to Kappa's point he did look a little slow last night however that could have been the conditions/fatigue. I thought he showed genuine speed when I saw him live against the Hawks in NAB Challenge 1.

Travis Varcoe is not fast. Didn't break a line all season for the Cats playing in defence last year.

and That is why we are playing Varcoe in the Forward Line
 
He'll never be a superstar, but he's a nice cog to have in the machine. Not as penetrative as O'Brien, but he makes better decisions. Doesn't play on sheer instinct. Early days yet, though.

The telling sign will be at seasons end and if he can produce a speech like the Prince.

Yeah I'm a bit surprised that some people are praising his game. Not sure he did that much.

He's such an outside player he just needs to do a little more. Probably not the best conditions for him. He did get 2 goal assists so that is a plus. Definitely prefer him over Young also.

Got no issue with Varcoe. He is definitely something we need. Some outside class. We don't need yet another "hard nut" with barely any skill. We have a whole team of those. We need someone who plays outside and has legitimate finishing skills.

Getting Varcoe was the first true Clarkson style of trading I've seen Buckley do since he took over.
 
Craig Bradley played a, (very good) whole career as a sheep dog.
We need Trav's skills on the outside.

Give him a few games he will be good for us did a few nice things.

He will be a good finisher or provide good final pass to our forwards.

He seems to play well in the dry MCG conditions looking forward to seeing him on ANZAC Day
 
He can certainly do a job for us but I do it hint he would have struggled getting a game at Geelong this season. Hopefully he will go well!

Like many here, I didn't see a lot in Varcoe's game. I do think that the greasy conditions were the cause of his failure to bounce and run in for goal when he had the chance. A conservative decision based on conditions I think. EVERYONE WAS HAVING TROUBLE CONTROLLING THEIR KICKING AS WELL AS HANDLING THE BALL. I think it worked in our favour from the number of times a good Brisbane kick was not marked, letting our players in to contest where on a decent day they would have been raising their hands to guard the mark, not looking for a target themselves.

Pretty sure Varcoe played as a HBF/Wingman most of last year...

He can play that for us if required if his delivery is good.

Young will struggle to get back into this side which can only be a good thing going forward.
