My how a week is a long time in football, but I have to agree with this week's posters to some degree as I was more than once yelling at my TV last night that Varcoe was a lazy prick and seemed to only find his full pace when a goal was on offer.
I think it would be a good message to send him back to the twos (if in fact he is not doing what is asked of him), however a big call and not sure if selectors will make it.
As for the trade, being "bent over" is just a ridiculous statement to make 2 games in, really just get a grip. What did we "lose" for Varcoe?
Lumumba, a similiar player, with much more endeavour but lesser disposal skills and who just caused way too many off-field distractions to keep him on. The other part of that deal, Mitch Clark. So far hasn't exactly set the world on fire (that first goal last week was a gift) and after one week has caused as much off-field drama as H could've, imagine he was playing for us and that crap had've happened? We'd be copping it like a new prison inmate. Again, get a grip.
 
Without looking at the stats, I thought he played an okay game.
Faded in and out at times but who didn't? Was also a little indecisive at times but so were most because of how well Adelaide were applying pressure.

Guess he's just going to be another whipping boy for most supporters.

Dear Travis,

Welcome to reality. If you thought you were under the microscope when you came to Collingwood, now you're going to get a real dose of what the magpie army is famous for. I heard that you changed clubs for a bit of security. Well I doubt that you'll make it through your second year. You'll be wanting a transfer to another club with a far lower profile. The magpie army is going to dissect every kick and handball you get and blast you for every mistake and basically make your life a living hell. You're going to wish that you stayed in sleepy hollow because you're going to experience death by a thousand cuts. We've been nice to you so far by calling you gutless and lazy.... wait until the real abuse starts. You're only hope to make it through to the end of the year is for the team to manage to patch together enough wins to satisfy the magpie faithful.... but I wouldnt be counting on it. I almost feel sorry for what's going to happen to you, but it was your own choice to come to our great club ....and now you're going to pay for it. Anyway, good luck and remember, try not to take any of the abuse personally. It's just that we hate your guts.

I got to admit, I rarely read one of your posts without at least a chuckle. :)
 
Our choice of recycled players over the past few years are an indictment on the recruiting strategy.
While we, the supporter base, want immediant success, recruiting cast offs has been an abject failure this past half decade.
There is a reason that Geelong decide Varcoe was surplus to requirements.
Simple reason is they thought he was no longer a "Premiership Player".
So why do we think he can take us to the next level?

You obviously havent been on other team boards my little friend. This is more proof that average players in successful teams (Geelong in this case) end up being overated superstars... The one that clearly stands out for me is The biggest overated media loved player ever - COREY ENRIGHT!

Didn't like him at geelong, don't like him even more now. Honestly have no idea why we would pick this guy up. No point being a good user of the ball if you're only gonna find it 13 times.

I never liked him when he was playing under 7s for Smithfield in South Australia. I had issues with him before he started primary school and I didnt like his attitude to his mother when he was being breast fed. In fact, I thought he demonstrated a poor attitude when he was being delivered. I never liked him and nothing that he is going to do in the future at the collingwood football club is going to change that. I challenge anyone to be a more passionate collingwood supporter than me....

Has a bit of attitude on the ground. He is a classy player , lets just hope he stays fit and doesn't become Clinton Youngv2

I was not enamoured of the recruitment of Varcoe, but last nights performance indicated that perhaps I was wrong. He looked like just the kind of player we wanted, and not the player I thought he was at all. One for the recruiters.

Exactly, even cameron ling said during the game that he hasnt seen this attack on the ball and opponent aggression from varcoe for over 2 years.
Clearly been talked to by the coaches, the best part of it tho, was how he responded. Proves he can do it, keep that up and no one will call for him to be axed.
 
Yes Varcoe was very good last night. Defensive pressure was good and he can finish.
