Varcoe runs to the right spots, but we don't use him enough. He has the skills but we don't lead to the right options. And our outside game is poor we can't seem to link up probably. Even if tried harder nothing would change.
We don't use him enough? What does that even mean? He's played both games so far this season. He's afforded the right to start on the ground and he's more than likely afforded the freedom to use his pace and creativity. He doesn't use himself enough.

"We don't lead to the right options" - I'm not even going to touch that one, it makes less sense than a lesbian with ball skills.

"Our outside game is poor" - Isn't he supposed to be someone to help us out in that area? I don't know where you're going with the second half of that sentence.

If he tried harder, maybe that'd mean using the pace that he supposedly has. I certainly haven't seen it yet. He can't tackle, or if he can, he doesn't. His endeavour was almost non existent tonight. He's a worry.

Love the positivity. If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought he was the only one who didn't pull his weight today.
It's a thread about Varcoe, surely it's okay that we talk about him and no one else in this thread?

Edit - although, point taken, it was a team issue tonight.

You're on crack for sure.
He had an ok 2nd, however he just trots along and couldn't tackle a nine year old.
Total spud, shouldn't be taking games off kids.

But it's plain knowledge that he doesn't/can't tackle, Didak wasn't great at it either. But unlike the rest of the players on the ground in the first half Varcoe was actually with the opposition player applying some kind of pressure, and breaking into space. Everyone else was just trailing the opposition by 50 metres so you couldn't say they aren't physical because they weren't even at the contest.

He runs to the right spots to receive but we always seem to fumble it and stuff it up before he even gets a chance to be involved. Then he also spends half of his time up forward where the ball hardly went.

We don't lead to the right spots. Figure out what that means.

He can't help our outside game when its virtually non existent. Our inside mids pretty much just win the ball and smack it away and our defenders our terrible ball users and Sidebottom our best outside runner is out. He's really got no one to work off of.

Maybe if we linked up on the outside better he'd have a better opportunity to use his pace.

If he has pace why doesnt he chase and tackle? We got bent over in that trade.

Didn't like the trade then, nothing has changed my mind since.
Inclined to agree... was hoping that we would get a draft pick for Lumumba rather than Varcoe. Of course Mitch Clark would have been better still.

We just have so many Bad Kicks that its for him to get the Ball. He is not at the Cats now

Yes, look at the stats.

Any effective ones?

Yes, watch the game.

He just cruises around the ground, making sure he is not placing his body on the line looking for the cheap kicks. Our club needs leaders and players who arnt afraid to win a contested posession

Outside player wants to win the ball on the outside:eek:

Quick call the journalists, breaking news.

Maybe he grabs a few players jumpers while they have the ball but his overall physicality and affect on the contest is piss poor.

Watch the game he actually make some tackles.

but his overall physicality and affect on the contest is piss poor.

It doesn't need to be good he's an outside player.

I was never a fan of Varcoes. He is to much of a flash in the pan. I think we should try him of halfback a bit. If he doesn't show soon. I reckon put him in VFL, then delist.. I'm really sick of getting refuse from other teams, we really haven't had much success in trading in for experience lately.

Collingwoods superannuation for not wanted players from other sides the last few years has been a bonanza for the youngs, whites and varcoes of this world.
