Played great, loved the intercept and chase all the way up the ground. Fantastic effort, he was buggered after that.

Seemed a little nervous in the first though, so I'm trying to raise some of those points. Fumbled a little bit, needed a second touch or lost the ball at times. I thought him trying to take on the Freo CHB was a mistake, should have drew him for the handball to the side for Hawkins (like he did with the SJ goal assist).

Otherwise, I'm really liking his effort recently. Been real impressive.

I wonder what those jerks who used to sit near my mate & I at KP who would never get off his back are thinking now?

Being a huge fan of tackling, I've always loved his pressure and am now RAPT that the rest of his game has developed to the point where it's at now. Can't see any reason why he won't improve another 20% either.

It's also great to see a player not afraid to kick it along the ground every now and then either.

His place in the team for me is cemented. His attack on the ball and man is unquestionable. Keeps himself in the contest and is having an impact on most he goes to.
Question on when he got run down and did not get boot to ball...how was that different to when Haselby took on one tackler, spun out and then the ball was knocked out by Linger in the 2nd tackle? Holding the ball also?
Effort to run 150m from HB to goal square when Gambon kicked his goal was inspirational...always happy with a sausage but Ryan should have rewarded him with a gimme handball in the square.

Loved Travis today, he has really impressed this season and seems to bring the desire and drive to the team that sometimes seems to be a bit lacking.

Yeah he makes mistakes, who doesn't....don't get me started on the whole, take the set shot and don't play on or you might miss debarcle!

Anyhow, a bright star for the future! Com'on Geelong!

From Fox Sports,

"Rather, it was Harvey's choice of CD on his drive to the ground that sparked alarm bells.

"I put in a CD ... and I found myself singing (Al Stewart's) Year of the Cat," Harvey said after the Dockers' 19-point loss at Subiaco Oval."

Second game in a row where he's gone into the midfield and ripped the game open with his pace, work ethic and tenacity.

His work that lead to the Gamble goal was one of the most exciting things i've seen in quite some time, and even more impressively, he actually continued on to present in the goal square.

One of our major weaknesses during our amazing run has been the lack of that skilled midfielder who can break lines and create something with his speed, and now we've finally found one.

He's very much still a work in progress, but he really is starting to become the footballer i knew he could be.

The really exciting thing is that he's only recently turned 21 :D

A man named Gary Ablett might have something to say about that!

Good post nevertheless. I am fast becoming a big Varcoe fan. His ball use is first class and he is winning more footy and harder at it than ever. Exciting future ahead.

He got better as the game went along. He seemed a bit quiet initially, but once he got into it I thought he was one of our most influential, along with Byrnes, Enright and a bloke called Scarlett.

That smother and run in the middle to get the ball down forward was exhilarating. Deserved a Gamble handball and a sausage, but he's a team player. Starting to get a bit of a man crush going.

bye bye wojak?

Not sure if this correct. Varcoe plays more up forward and the mid-field. Wojak plays more down back and on the wing.

I would really like to see Wojak get some form and have both playing in the same side. I believe it is important to have some leg speed across the park - some down back, some in the middle and down forward. This provides for greater pressure to be applied to the opposition ball holder and can be used to break the lines going the other way.

So hopefully Wojak down back, Varcoe in the middle and Byrnes up forward (and slight variations on this set up) could provide this scenario for the Cats.

The biggest problem I have seen with Wojak is that he tends to give away too many free kicks when he really doesn't have to do this. He seems like a confidence player and hopefully he gets some from playing in the twos - and does not get dejected from having to do so.

Gamble really should have passed it.

Maybe it was the Freo player pulling himself off the ground at that stage that made Gamble think the best option was to kick the goal himself. Watch the last frame and how close the Freo player is to Varcoe.

Gamble really should have passed it.

Players cant win sometimes - ppl on here have been saying we have been stuffing around with it too much and passing it off too much instead of kicking the simple goal - now the opposite?!

I know i know, but it would have been nice.

But yes we would have been the first to critisise if he had missed it after all that! Everyone knows who did the hard yards there! :thumbsu:

Good to see people finally jumping on the Varcoe train too many people over looked his age and injuries prior to being drafted when throwing criticism at him. I hope his confidence and fitness continue to grow because he offers a totally different dynamic to the midfield when he is up and about like on the weekend.

Gamble really should have passed it.

If he did, it would've been goal of the year IMO. To paddle the ball in front of him while out-running three opponents, gather, pass it off, keep running 80m and nearly get on the end of it in the goal square was amazing, and a hell of a lot better than Rioli's effort.
