They are doing a fine job making a mess of themselves at this stage! Wading through some of those threads is a guilty pleasure of mine I must admit.

Caseem to find a seeder for the game, I'm bloody keen to see it!

Have you been to their board? Now that is some satisfying reading.

Looked a bit out of form at times but that is expected for his first game of the season. Really shows how much we have missed his forward pressure. He really is a very important player.
First game back from an injury, he did pretty well. But you have a good point, nevertheless no player is perfect (unless you're an Ablett!)

Defensive pressure was outstanding, and good work zipping at the feet of the talls. We have missed him.

I wonder if we can fit him, Byrnes and Stokes in the same side, and I get the feeling we might be about to find out.

Well done Trav :thumbsu:

I still don't think all 3 can play in the one side. Only two out of those players and while Byrnes was playing crap you could possibly argue he'd go, but he was terrific again today. On current form no way should he or Varcoe get the chop.

There's no longer any question that Varcoe is #1 out of those 3.

I'll be surprised if Stokes gets back to his best and if Byrne's is still in the side by season's end. I would like to see them try some of the other small speedy forwards in the 2nd small forward spot

Stokes missed 09 GF, that I believe is a statement and can only see him getting in if Varcoe/ Byrnes get injured. Varcoe is superb and will continue to improve. Looking at Stokes today, I really thought he was a mascot, he is that small in the VFL game.

in stature, or his output?

I must say i have been a critic of Trav in the past. Never doubted his ability but didn't quite do enough for my liking. He started to really win me over last year though. And now it seems he is taking his game to whole new level. It was a magical performance from Trav and has justified the preseason hype with this dazzling performance. Well done Trav, keep it up lad!

You pretty much mirror my thinking exactly. I could never quite put my finger on the reason why, but I was never 100% comfortable early on when Varcoe was named in our 22. Like you, I never doubted his ability - but he just seemed to spend a lot of time watching rather than getting involved.

Loved his 2009 season though, and what a return yesterday! Glad to have him back (and looking fitter than ever!). :thumbsu:

He was very awesome yesterday, his pre-season was just as awesome, and was very disappointed when I heard he was injured back then. Great he's back, we've (and Shannon Byrnes, I'd imagine) been missing him.

I tend to agree personally. But Bomber has been saying in his presser's every week that Stokes is a virtual lock for round 8. So that's why I said I think we're about to see all three trialled in the same side.

A very nice game back we have missed him ...but I'll just say this.

Is there a point we can expect him to take the game by the scruff of the neck , he is so team oriented , it can sometimes be to the teams detriment. What was he doing up city end , he's that good by foot just kick it Trav.

The guys is as quick as anyone , more balance that a circus acrobat , and has right foot thats very good on the run. He is a good player . he could be a great player , I just wonder if he will get there because he seems to lack that something , that internal switch that says go for it.SJ has it , he probably has the switch stuck in ON but I also look at Mitch Duncan and I reckon he has it too. TV I just think he has so much more to give.

As some have said, he is still very young. He was drafted early but he was born within a month of Selwood. His development is coming along nicely and after 50 odd games , give him another 50 maybe he will be ready to be the man. People can say , as good as Ablett , until he is willing to take some of that on his own shoulders he will only ever be what he is , a very useful addition to a very good side
