He reminds me a bit of Ablett when he was first playing for the Cats. Would show flashes of brilliance when he got the ball as a small forward, but seemed to lack confidence and was always looking to handball to a teammate rather than just go for goal.

I'm not suggesting that Trav can improve as much as Ablett did, but I do think that with even greater fitness and increased confidence, he could develop into an excellent forward/midfielder.

I agree with this. Reminds me of Ablett at a similar age. The only difference was that Ablett required a rocket up him from his teammates to train hard and reach his potential. Varcoe and Ablett when compared at the same age seem to have similar tools in the toolkit only Varcoe has more pace.

gun, his leg speed up forward was missed during the start of the season

Agree with this, I think the he's become one of our more important players in terms of both his speed and skill. The thing that's impressed me about him though is his hardness at the ball and willingness to take risks. He's really got everything in his toolbox.

I was hanging onto the side of the Varcoe bandwagon before tonight, but now I'm well and truly on-board! Brilliant crumbing performance from him tonight, he could not be stopped. They described him on the radio as 'like a seagull swooping on a hot chip.' :p

Interesting thread on the Don's board about which of their players would be in our best 22 - one post saying that Watson (J, not T) is clearly a far superior player to Varcoe in every sense. Let's look at tonight's game - Watson 28 disposals 0 tackles 0 goals contributed Varcoe 19 disposals 4 tackles 6 goals contributed. Worth remembering that Watson has played about 50 more games too... Different types of players but I'd suggest that Varcoe isn't being given enough credit by opposition supporters.

If they underrate him then it is at their peril and other teams will be on the receiving end.

How good is it to see the number 5 tearing apart Essendon ;)

Hardly surprising. He's been underrated by a fair proportion of Geelong supporters too.....

I will say it again..and again..and again....Varcoe is a star and will be elite before much longer. The kid is 21 and has it all....tremendous pace, sublime foot skills, great defence, goal sense, team player, wonderful hands.... When there's a space in the midfield, and his engine is built up a bit more...look out! This guy is an absolute gem!
