I'm assuming you didn't watch Geelongs game last week because J Hunt wasn't playing,so you never saw Varcoe play.Yes he was out of form for a month leading up to last week but last week he was very good and found some form.

Taking the fricking blinkers off once in awhile and you'll see better.

Let's re-visit this topic next time we play a Hawthorn/Carlton/Collingwood or someone half decent and we'll rate Varcoe's performance.. Gee I wonder what the outcome will be..

Did YOU see the game? Adelaide could barely be described as opposition, Varcoe's performance meant little. The whole point of the next 10 or so rounds is to find our best 22 for finals and I dont think the Crows are gonna be there.

The Josh Hunt references mean nothing and only make yourself look like a fool..

I didn't know they were against weak sides. ^ (it would be harder to find highlights actually.)

****, I'm sick of this thread.

lol Doubt it, you're pulling out footage from 2 years ago..

None of this footage addresses his lack of aggression and work rate over 4 quarters in the majority of games in 2011.

Most of his ardent fans live in fantasy land, they prefer to deny reality no matter what facts are presented.
They still haven't got over the 'ran down Buddy' thrill, big deal, got him from behind when he thought he had time, so what, you carn't claim a career over 1 tackle, surely not, but to some that's all he ever needs to do!

so if we don't beat Essendon this week, which is likely, what I can say is that Travis Varcoe is the missing link. After all, he has UNIQUELY played in every one of our wins, FACT, and his absence could be directly attributable to that potential loss. Yep, he's been shocking this year.

Realistically though, his form last week, with him playing as a mid, was excellent. Anybody who disputes that is bitter and twisted. Varcoe is out this week, on a well deserved rest, ready for a big one against WCE. All should be happy. Detractors because he is out, lovers because he gets a break and wasn't dropped. How you choose to look at it.

The reality lies somewhere in the middle of you guys. It's a fact that Varcoe has been inconsistent and disappointing for the most part this year. It's also a fact that he has shown enough in his bursts of brilliance to suggest his best is required in our side.

He was lucky not to be dropped at one stage (as a lesson to find form at least), but now he's performed well and we need to support the guy and hope he does the same against a quality side next week.

Re: Calls for Varcoe to be dropped

Glad to here you're so relieved Dave,:D after half a doz dud weeks, so would I if I was continually singing his praises like you!

Remember, young Bundy got 26 and Mackie 28 possessions, so I wouldn't be skitting to much if I was you, come W C Eagles game I'll be counting, make no mistake about that!:D

You and that Foressman just don't understand, I hope the guy succeeds if he's selected, but if he goes missing in the tough ones, he's just a down hill skier and best left out.

I reckon he should be glad he's at Geelong, with the patience afforded him.

No I don't continually sing his praises...I was critical of his performances against GC, and St Kilda in particular.

What I do, is defend him him from incessant, disproportionate, biased and brain addled prejudice from some posters on here....you being one of them.

We agree on many things about football meto, but Varcoe isn't one of them.

BTW...generally I find Forss a very good poster on football issues. I must also agree with the poster who is sick of this thread...haters will hate and supporters will continue to support, through thick and thin.

Thats what being a supporter is all about.

Obviously you've just bought in and you have no idea of the reasoning behind my critique.
Dave and his mate Forse, have obviously got emotional bias for the guy!

See, in a team sport, every player is accountable for his contribution, otherwise the country cats might find themselves out of a Grand Final like happened last year! and I'm sure we'd all hate to be denied a tilt at the flag by a kick once more.
A kick away from a flag shot's gotta hurt, like losing the thing.
One weak link pressurizes the rest, so we just need to be sure, I need a little more convincing.

So far he's played 1 solid game for the duration in 2011, that's my genuine worry,
did he go missing in that game against the Saints last year, Yes!
Always the hard ones, so for mine, after one game I'm not yet a believer, does that make sense to you?

For whatever reason, Trav seems to lack confidence this year and just hasn't put in one solid 4 quarter effort. He's been afforded ample opportunity to run into form but it simply hasn't materialised.

Lets hope the boot camp over west with Joel toughens young Travis up and steels him for a great back half of the season.

no emotional bias here (unlike your self), i am surprised he wasnt dropped, but hey, he must have been doing what the coaching staff were asking.

what i dont understand is why your vindictive posts target 1 player out of a list of 47.

No Varcoe and we lost tonight, a bit irnoic.
But I don't think that's the reason of the defeat. We lacked consistency and accuracy tonight. That's how we get crunched!

We got done for intensity. Intensity and will won the game for Essendon tonight. A team who were told all week that they would get smashed and shamed by 60+ points played with more intensity at the contest than I've seen the entire year in any game. Truly an impressive effort on their behalf.

Varcoe? Well, this style of game would not have suited him on 2011 form. We could have really done with Selwood though.. understatement.

Yeah yeah, intensity. I missed this point. Thanks.:)
We lifted a bit late in the 4th quater but that was too late. The first half(excluding the first 5 minutes) was disappointing.
Corey and Varcoe likely to be back next week. But without Selwood, it will be a massive test for us playing eagles.

Oh yeah I agree... next week will be a very interesting game. With Selwood out, our stoppage strength is taking a hammering.

Some of the youngsters found out what real AFL pressure was like tonight too, after last weeks pathetic display from Adelaide. I'd say with the exception of Duncan(Christensen good early), the youngsters had trouble competing. This loss will help many fans see where the club is REALLY at and how improvements must be made for a good finals campaign. Varcoe is a big part of this improvement requirement.

Duncan is a solid contributor and can kick goals in the 4th quarter. That is someting special. Menzel quiet tonight due to injury, or he might provide something more. Other first year rookie(Metlop almost)really needs to taste some real AFL intensity games.
And I agree, Varcoe should play a big role in this finals campaign to not only provide disposals but also make overall balances.

Those who wanted him out after our win against Crows, despite his improved form, will be conspicuous by their absence?

Do you really think T Varcoe would've made the difference?

He might have managed 6 touches again, as he has so often this year, he isn't the difference between winning and loosing.

How poor starting up the Varcoe hype coz the boys had a loss, some supporter????????

You serious? Starting up the hype??? Is there an antidote for you?

I'm here. There's nothing to suggest that due to the intensity of the game last night, that Varcoe would have made a big difference. Last night was a stark contrast to the Adelaide game, none of our players had space all night!

Varcoe would have had to contest and take some knocks in winning the ball to be valuable last night. I haven't seen him do that all year. We needed Selwood like air!!
