I tend to skip over the "Claytons' Tackles" columns, a bad failing of mine.
Wonder if he got one for "chasing" Yarran?
He shouldn't...pressure would imply he was actually catching him.

Shouldn't do- probably started off as a pressure act but fell away so I would say not. He applied no pressure on the ball carrier after the first few seconds and never affected the disposal

man, who would want to be a professional athlete?

you hammer yourself throughout pre-season, risk injury every week during the season, and restrict your lifestyle in order to do so. and then you face a barrage of insults when you dont 'put in hard enough'/lay 'your body on the line'/play flawlessly every week, disappointing those who follow from home/at the ground, and feel personally let down when you dont reach the peaks...

im sure TVs disappointing form bothers him a lot. its his career, his profession. i hope he can pull it together, cause he is great to watch at full flight. but more than that, i hope he pulls it together cause its his life and i would guess his passion as well. he is definitely down on where he could be, but i feel like the vitriol that some supporters (of all clubs) often lay on people they dont know merely because they have followed a jumper since long before that person ended up at the club to be distasteful.

'should never play for the club again' has been stated on this site many times in relation to many players from many clubs. how quickly we want to see a persons career taken away from them because they dont 'go hard enough' for us sitting on the sidelines.

back them all if they get picked to play. if they dont have a great game, feel safe in the knowledge that anyone who chooses to play a sport at any level demands things from themselves, and would be disappointed enough in poor performance to count for all of us.

i think its bizarre how personal some can get when a player 'lets them down' by under-performing.

if he could string a season together like the early pre-injury rounds in 2013, he would be one of the leagues absolute elite.

he has nothing but respect from me. best of luck to TV for the rest of his career, i hope we get many more years from him at a level that he can feel happy about when he retires. cause its his career after all.

I don't comment on this forum often, but Travis is being played out of position. Shocking defender. Not helping his confidence at all. Should be played forward. Would allow for a Bews or Thurlow to hold down a defensive position. Seems so simple from the outside!

Then you're probably best off not!.............we need our best team, the dude has been out of form since 2011. You might be a fan of his but that's not the point, Geelong needs performing players now.
Hartman had 30 possessions in the two's, guy's like him now need to be played as does Bews and Thurlow, at the moment it's Varcoe that has to go.

Should be dumped instantly for Johno, Murdoch and or Jimmy, maybe Hartman should be under serious consideration as well, that's big numbers in the two's.

It doesn't matter if it's TV or anyone else, football or business your paid to preform and if you can't you will be replaced sorry but that's life.

Yeah just read Hartmans numbers, can't ignore those numbers. Perfect replacement for TV.

Let me think about it......me, me, me, and me. Using Varcoe as an example I can give you approximately 450,000 reasons every year.

...get paid a staggering amount of money, if the coach likes you you're immune from being dropped (and he is), form is unimportant as you're going to be played (and get paid) anyway, all medical expenses paid, all travel expenses paid, beats the hell out of working for a living, best of all there are enough supporters who will defend me no matter what so why should I try hard now?

personal and career satisfaction? my point was there are very callous attitudes from so many on this site about another persons life and career. wishing him gone from his profession because when they were sitting on the couch they got frustrated he wasnt playing well enough. im sure TV wishes he was dominating week in, week out, and im sure he is trying his hardest to do so. i dont think he should play every week no matter what, but when he plays he gets my full support.

if it was only about money, the life and demands of a pro athlete would be pretty depressing in my opinion.

Sometimes I wonder if Varcoe's biggest problem is his shyness. You see a lot of his type in grass-roots footy - those who are happy to get involved if the contest comes to them, but who are unwilling to call for it when in conspicuous places. Reluctant to run into the open space and present an option. Fear of making a mistake and costing the team, coupled with natural aversion to being the centre of attention. It doesn't necessarily follow that these types of players are cowards, or soft, just that they don't really want to get involved in the same way as many others.

In any case, IMO, relative to the 130 games under his belt (i.e. relative to the fact that he is theoretically in the prime of his career), Varcoe's basic numbers are very disappointing. Hard to argue that his spot in the team is justified.

Yes, he may wish, but it's not about supporting so much, it's about playing the best available and unfortunately for you he isn't best available.

But remember others need a chance too!!!!! And they are performing.

if he isnt among the best 22, he shouldnt play. i have never stated the opposite.
