Some people are seriously crazy. The point system should never be used to measure a trade? Why the hell would gws trade pick 8 for 23 and 25 to pick up a player they could just use pick 8 for anyway? It's still the same result for them, but they strengthen other clubs by giving them a low pick they didn't already have. It's utter madness to even suggest such a thing.
It would be the entire opposite for the Northern clubs that the academies are meant to do
Realistically the points valuation should only come into play when in relation to teams with academy / father son selections.
With bidding now, it's not a one pick deal like it used too it is all about the points. For example Mills is expected to be bidder on at pick 3. With the 20% discount the Swans are going to need 1,787.2 points to match the bid. In order to do that with one pick they need pick 5. They have pick 14 which is worth 1,161 points leaving them a deficit of 626.2 points which would require their second and part of their third round pick to match. Then they have to find points for other academy or father/son selections (Brisbane have five academy kids including two high end ones they will have to bid on).
So for these clubs it is about maximising points not necessarily draft order.
I hope this all makes sense.
