i thought he played ok, he got better as the game went on, in my Opinion Richardson is the hardest player to match up on in the afl, height speed agility strength, even carey lacks speed and is a few cm shorter. I wanted him out for this week, but maybe hes got a place down back, id say put him on lloyd next week and see how he goes.

I thought he tried but was simply outclassed. Also the tigers delivered the ball to Richo very well - much better than what we gave to Wilson and Cummings. We should probably persist with Carroll down back with Macca. When Macca's knees give in at the end of thsi year Trnet may have had some time to build som confidence.

Must admit I was devestated to hear Macca was out at the start of the game - really made it hard for us.

Once we get Glass back the backline will stabilise a little more (and Macca of course)

Its official Ah_19 you are a traitor ... Carroll on Lloyd!!! Are you nuts????????

Carroll was pretty terrible tonight and i know he got thrown in the deep end after Ash pulled out of the game but you think he could have a had a little more impact than that. Richardson gave him an absolute bath.

I dont think he got better at any stage of the match and should be dropped. If McIntosh plays next week which i think he will then there is no doubt that he will play on Lloyd.

I mean cmon an average defender like Carroll on the best FF in the league .. give me a break.

God i count the days for Emblys and Glass' return.

I think some of you guys need to give Carroll a break. Come on, KJ hasn't been playing him as a defender all season and suddenly you expect Carroll to be able to match up on who I think is the best FF in the league? He did allright and I think if he gets more time down there he could become a good defender alonside Glass as two good young defenders. KJ didn't have many options for richo though last night and Carroll just had to do it.

PS One small thing, I would like to see Carroll bulk up a bit in the upper body and do some sprinting practice.

the best players are developed under the toughest circumstances
look at the bombers, McVeigh gets to play on the oppositions BEST player, not because he can take them out of the game, but because he will develop FAST, you cant have trent playing on useless players or playing himself in the forward line and then have him take out the best CHF in the comp

it may have hurt us in the short term, but he will learn a lot from it

Jod, stop thinking THIS YEAR
we ARENT premiership material
so WHY waste time when you can develop players
it may hurt us this year but we will benefit from it in the LONG TERM,
If we arent going to win a premiership this year why not prepare for the years were we will be premiership material
short sightedness in anyone is annoying

Absolute unmitigated craphead of a player. Got nowhere near Rich in the first half, didn't try to compete. Jacko went on him in 3 rd quarter and did well. So KJ puts Caroll back on him in 4th quarter and another bath ensues. Simple move was Jacko at FB and Gardy at CHB...not tried!!! Nothing was tried!!!! Is Judgey awake?

ps and Carrol was worst on ground against the Dockers

ah_19, there is a huge risk in getting rid of all the experienced players for new ones. Firstly they have no role models in the team to look up to. The young players could also burn out and then we would have to start from scratch again. The way KJ is doing it at the moment is fairly ok but his coaching tactics aren't that great.

Trent Carroll did try and do the best he could, but lets face it - he's not up to AFL standard. My opinion of him hasn't changed when he was with Fremantle.

Once again I don't understand Ken Judge's coaching methods. Did it take him 2 quarters of football to realise Carroll wasn't the man to play on Richo? If anything Troy Wilson would of been a good ploy to go down back, he's got a quick lead and has played some good games at FB in the WAFL.

The Eagles really have a problem with their backline. With McIntosh not playing they couldn't even call up Antonowicz to play due to injury. And don't get me started on why Greg Harding was out there!

Antonowicz is injured long term remember?

I reckon just let Carroll play awhile in defence alongside McIntosh and see what happens.

Carroll cannot be blamed for friday night. Even though he got beaten he did try. He was always running with richo, trying to spoil, tackling and working his arse off. He was simply out-classed by a better player. Nothing he could of done would have changed that.

Give him another chance to prove he can play on the oppositions 3rd or 4th best forward, not the best(currently) forward in the AFL.

Trent Carroll could do with being 4 inches taller for the positions he is playeing. He is also not quick enough off the mark.

We have used him to pinch it at CHF, Full Back and Ruck and he has been found out.

To have the luxury to play Gardy at CHF we need to bring in Turnbull.

Hopefully Milly will be back this week.

Perhaps its time to play Travis Gaspar. He has played the last 2 weeks for South Freo being named one its best yesterday.

I still think we should drop him so he can find some form and confidence but im not sure we can afford to. Who will replace him??
He may aswell play against the Bombers just dont put him on Lloyd or Hird.

Speaking of Hird who is going to mind him. Is Matera tall enough?? Collica Morrison?

I think Trent Carroll could just make it if McKenna coaches him for awhile, say 4 weeks, telling him his faults, a few tricks of the trade. Darren Glass could also sit in as well and learn a bit too. With Glass and Carroll both turning into good players we could have a good defence. I think he just needs time in defence where he belongs, maybe back in the WAFL.

I think it is time to bite the bullet! Judge continues to persist with Carroll at CHF and it just isnt working. Either drop him and let him find some form or leave him down back where he is more comfortable on the second or third best forward.

It is definitely time to bring Gaspar into the team, throw him in the deep end at CHF and see what happens, obviously nothing else is working at that position and the only person i feel confident with on the half forward line is Williams and Gardiner. We need Gardy in the ruck and Williams is more of a flanker so bring in Gaspar please ....

Williams is starting to remind me of Woosha. Broad, strong and a strong mark. I'd like to see him on the right half back flank. Jako must go to CHF. He is too slow for CHB, his opponent always drops to the goalsqaure and leads out fast with Jako 5 metres behind. CHF is a problem area for us and Jako could be the answer. I'd even trade Wilson into the CHB position as he has played there before.
Carrol was worst on ground again and must be dropped.
Embley and Braun both played full games in the WAFL.
Judgey has said that Roo will go onto the ball soon.

Williams in defence is wrong! He is probably the best mark in our team taking 13 two weeks ago and in defence the golden rule is punch first mark later. So his best asset will not be used.

He definitely needs to stay at half forward. Matera may have to move onto the ball this weekend if our midfield is depleted but if Cousins is right to go and Braun returns i see no reason to move him into the midfield. He is playing very well off half back so why not leave him there.

I'd like to see Troy Wilson used in defence when the opositions forwards are killing us, like on Sunday.

Trent Carroll was so wasteful on the weekend, giving away what, 3 or 4 free kicks in just a few minutes? and really undiscilplined ones at that....

K - i agree, if we are getting killed in defence then throw Wilson back there, but if its even then we must keep him at FF. Without Scotty we have no main target. Plus he has being pretty good this year, i think he is in the top 5 goal scorers in the comp.

Definately play Carroll in the backline. Jako at CHF, we have tried that, more than once, but it didn't work. I agree with bringing in Gaspar, or McDougall if he isn't injured, they've got to start some time so why not now

Putting Wilson into defence has to be the dumbest idea I have ever heard. Yes I know he played a defender in the WAFL some matches and did quite well, but remember:

1. He was a defender in the WAFL, not exactly the same as the AFL.

2. There goes full forward, who's going to kick the goals?

Vis

Vis,
Yes Wilson is untried in defence but he was untried in attack until 6 matches ago. Surely when your 8 goals down its worth trying out! And it doesn't really matter if your scoring two goals if the opposition is scoring ten! Just maybe a good CHF option in Jacko would provide opportunities for other players to score. Having a target man and looking for him just about every time is an easily defended ploy. Utilising several targets can be much better.

In saying that I do agree that Jako was tried last year at CHF and was poor. The problem I have is that he is still a great player but too slow for CHB, so the question is where do you play him?

Thanks Vis! ;) Got plenty more dumb ideas if you're interested.... :D

The thing is, that sometimes there are games when the ball just isnt getting down there..... it's a pity, but also a fact. My point was just why waste a big mobile guy with defending experience, who isnt getting the ball where he's playing?

I wasn't suggesting a permanent move, just calm down.. ;)
