Trent Hentschell

i don't see any reason why his career is over, He will spend a year exclusively bulking up massively then he will be the right size to be a power/lead out player like a neitz or hall (for example, not comparison). Hopefully the extra size compensates for him inevitably losing mobility. Wishful thinking? - maybe but i hope not.
I rate Hentschel highly, but I don't think adding size will help him as a player - he's just doesn't play a power type of game well.

IMO Hentschel's weaknesses have been his one on one physical contests and a god-awful set shot kicking style (despite sometimes being effective, who could ever be confident watching his approach?!). I don't think building himself up to be stronger will help him in a power style game as he'll never use his strength well or use it in an intimidating way.

Again IMO, Trent's strength has been his incredible speed (and accuracy) of decision, especially when under extreme pressure. Ironically that's probably what caused the injury - there was hardly another player who could have gotten ball to boot in that position let alone have it heading directly toward goal with the kick. Trent reminds me of Hird with his speed of decision (maybe even faster, although Hird's more skilled and aerobic), when Hird added size to become more powerful it slowed his ability to react down a notch and caused his foot problems.

Trent's speed of decision under pressure is impossible to teach or train in and (once again IMO) the key to him coming back is whether his body can still react to the speed he makes those decisions. If his body can react he will be just as good and damaging as ever on return.

Anyone heard any more on his recovery?

Great post. I have said previously that I see abit of Hirds freakish ability in Trent. As for Trent's current state, Dr Toots has him penciled in for a double amputation in the New Year.

Have not read the rest of the thread but hopefully Hentschell will come back even bigger and better than before.
All the best of luck to the young fella. He has worked very hard from the day he got on the list to improve himself and deserves to be rewarded for it. :thumbsu:

Same goes for Tredrea and anyone else coming back from injury no matter what team they might play for.
Personally I find trash talk about injured players even when said in jest ... well ... trash. :thumbsd:

Well said. You might want to post this on your board too.;)

Gladly Springy.
You find me a current thread on the Port board where it would be appropriate to express these "sentiments" and I'll post it there as well, word for word. ;)

Was talking to an anaesthetist, this weekend, who works at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He told me that the opinion of an orthopaedic surgeon he has spoken to, who is familiar with Trent's injuries and his operation, is that Hentschell will never play football again.

Very sad news if this turns out to be true. The vision of his leg being bent out of shape was sickening at the time. No one wants to see a player's career be interrupted let alone ended in this way.

I hope Hentschell can prove the surgeon wrong.

A guy at work had his knee done by the same surgeon and he told me the same thing
