Sad in a way, but goven the necessity of playing the away games it was bound to happen. Why have a third team here when we only play one side in a Test series. It just means another pointless one day series in return. And crowds have dropped right off when Australia isn't playing.
Though that could have been dampened somewhat by playing more games outside the capital cities. The crowds would be even lower, but the costs of playing games at Cazaly Oval, Maunka (Ind v SL this season), Mararra, the NTCA (Australia's oldest first class ground, now rather delapidated since it no longer hosts FC games), Newcastle #1, (the last two would need some serious work) etc, are lower and gets different people to the game.

I say they need to preserve the Tri-Series by cashing in on T20 and running a mini series between ODI series, when possible. 2 games per ground per day, in 3 cities, and then a final

Say this year, Aus, SL, Ind

Brisbane (Sunday) - Aus vs SL, SL vs Ind
Adelaide (Tuesday night) - Aus vs Ind. (Wednesday night) - Aus vs SL (One ticket for both games)
Melbourne (Friday night) - Aus vs Ind. (Saturday) Aus vs SL. (Saturday night) Final

Isnt it the most beautifl thing youve ever seen :p

And then, different cities next year, everyone wins :thumbsu:

With 20/20 they can have a quad-series.
Double headers, two non-Aus teams during the day, then Aus v whoever after work. Its still 80 overs cricket instead of 100; but it makes future away tours a problem - have to visit 3 nations.
And it would mean more pointless tours where only limited overs (in this case 20 over) cricket is played. Utterly pointless.

Every second year New Zealand would be here anyway...? We might as well make India a permanent fixture as well, cause we will be over there every year til forever

i'm a bit sad... its the end of an era but i guess it was always gonna happen eventually... it did lose some of its glamour in latter years but i'll never forget the first few years of the World Series Cup... classic cricket!!
Up until the late 90s it was going great guns. I enjoy the three team format more than I would a 5 or 7 match series against one other team. There were some awesome series in the 90s. The more memorable ones being against India and then West Indies early in the decade, and when Sri Lanka first made the finals in 95.

They can say its tired and promotes dead rubbers...but so will the other format.

Some of the greatest games of all time have been South Africa vs New Zealand on Australian soil, what about that game at the Gabba where SA made 300 and NZ fell two runs short, after Cairns hit an amazing ton.

Well its back boys, at least for this summer.
Thank god. Much better than a best of 7 series with 3 dead rubbers. At least the final ODI's are worth playing for no matter what.
The next tri-series is between India, England and Australia in 2015, just before the World Cup.
