Cmon macca, don’t go overboard now. Sure he had a bad night, but he was playing for an underwhelming Norwood team that was getting pumped all night long.

Yes he lost a fair amount of ruck duels. He was out-bodied quite a few times by Hudson and I recall him being pushed out of the way by McGregor too, but I’m prepared to put it down to a bad night. Who knows, maybe he was trying too hard to impress against the more experienced Hudson with all the coaching staff looking on to see where he stands? This was his first real chance to show that he deserves to make the team, and no doubt he failed. However I was impressed with his leap; he definitely gets up a lot higher for ruck contests now. He’s the youngest ruckman on our list, just give him time. It’s foolish to write him off after 1 trial game (I’m not saying you’re doing that btw).

With all the reports over the pre-season that he’s been more impressive than Maric I have no doubt he’ll bounce back sooner rather than later. :thumbsu:

Yeah, but Maric impressed enough last year to get actual game time, while we hear reports that Meesen's desire is being questioned. Last night showed that Meesen doesnt yet appear to be ready for AFL football.

I think maybe your Norwood goggles are affecting your judgment on this one.

.it sounds like even I could have slotted a couple of lazy sausages from a pocket last night.......:p

Mate you wouldn't get a kick on Zorzi if he was in an iron lung.

Such condescending arrogance from one whose team has so spectacularily underachieved for so long.

How I laughed.

Mate you wouldn't get a joke if it bit you on the top lip.

Such an inferiority complex from one whose team has so spectacularily underachieved for so long.

Adelaide Oval would be an ideal spot for trials........fantastic atmosphere.....great lights etc
highly agreed MD.

would be perfect, and IMO would bring a bigger crowd too, but I spose the crows would want to give something back to the SANFL through playing there and generating some $$$.

Surely the point of trial games isn't "getting a crowd" but getting a half decent practice match?? You're not getting that against Norwood. I hardly think "location" is the main reason for having a preseason game.

BTW are there rules preventing the 2 AFL sides having even practice matches at Adelaide Oval? Just curious.

I am not sure if the AFL and SANFL have a specific amendment written up for trials games in the ‘Adelaide Oval’ contract but if they didn’t wouldn’t they have to sanction this game before it could happen? I doubt they would allow it to happen.

And if it didn’t involve either of the 2 SA clubs the AFL would have to sign off on it and they are obstinate SOB and would say no.

I think Port supporters in general are missing the point

The Crows Practice match is about getting their systems correct not about the score line - it give NC the chance to trial a system in a semi competive enviroment.

whats the point of cutting your sqaud in half and telling them not to kick to the guy who in a week will be calling for the ball ?

Spot on Capitalist. We want to trial some game day situations / strategies and we can't accurately do that when our opposition actually knows what will happen. If we play against Norwood then they don't know the strategies and therefore the coaching staff gets a better idea on what does and doesn't work and how an opposition responds to it as well.

The vision between the crows trial and the power trial was quite telling in that there seemed to be a lack of intensity in chasing and tackling in the brief 30 secs of the power game that was shown on tv.

After reading the entire thread – and feeling slightly weird for doing that I would like to make some points

1) no-one mentioned Jericho – were my eyes tricking me or did he not play the entire game in the back pocket?

2) I decided halfway through the game that you couldn’t judge Meesen on that game, Its tough to ruck against an AFL standard player but to then have to get the ball away from 5-6 other AFL standard guys while your SANFL standard mate are getting smashed is a touch difficult. Also WTF was the point of playing him as a FF ?? complete waste of time when you kick 2 goals for the game.

3) FFS people get a grip on the score line its completely irrelevant, they are not out there for a competitive game !!.

4) how well dressed were half of the crowd for a football match :thumbsu: – that is why you would have it at centrals, too many boagans :thumbsd:

So how did he go?

Well I would have thought he did fairly well, however I kept confusing him for the other bottle blonde fellas we have running around.

But when I did recognise him I thought he did well, providing run from defence, probably beaten one on one, once or twice but its a bit hard to judge when the opposition kicks 2 goals for the game.

Cheers :)

Was he manned up on a bigger player? What factors would you say caused him to be beaten one on one. Positioning?

Jericho wasn't playing, I'm pretty sure I saw him walking past in the crowd (also saw Trent and Rhett, Trent was limping but Rhett looked good).
You may be thinking of Pfeiffer or Hinge? Did you check the number?

Cheers :)

Someone will no doubt correct me if i'm wrong but the guy who he was standing was slightly bigger both height and frame, though Jericho out run him easily on every occasion. Of the two time I saw him outbodied (he still managed the spoil of both occasions) once he was infront as was pushed under the ball and the second time was a pushed over from the side (this could have been from a third person but my eyes were killing me), which was probably a result of poor positioning and getting pushed under the player who was bigger and or stronger.

Still he seems a good prospect in defence, especially running out of defence - he is one quick bugger

Edit - see post above and below - I am hoping I wasn't seeing things !!
