If Toby Murray plays more than 10 games with 40% time on ground, we are stuffed.

I don’t think Toby Murray is up to the AFL standard, heck, I don’t think he’s up to SANFL standard.

He is the AFL version of an Antetokounmpo brother.
You dont reckon hes SANFL standard ??

Hes already proven he is.

No, I don’t. He isn’t consistent with his performance. Just looks a longways off being an AFL player.

I have far more faith in Tyler Welsh to make it over Toby.

In all honesty I would be very very hesitant to bring TT, Rachele, Dawson, Walker and Worrell.

Why? Plenty of time between games, only difference between this week and last week is 2 plane rides. These games are vital to building connection between our likely best 23.

Good point about giving Tex a travel break.

Think Ludo & Marsh are too raw, but could give Maley a go with T Murray in the forward & ruck rotations.

There’s 2 weeks between games and we’re at the beginning of the season. Nobody needs a rest, not even Tex. not saying they won’t do it, but if a rest in trial game 2 is going to improve you despite a 2 week break to the next game, then you’re in big trouble.

We know what hes gonna bring, we know the setup when hes in the side.

Wouldnt mind having a look at Murray.

The point of playing a Toby Murray (or any bottom 5-6 player) is not so much in their own performances, but what they bring to a structure. After all, these slots are about covering weaknesses or maximising your brightest talents. Remember, all of these players probably aren't AFL standard, unless they can carve a niche, with the quality of these players is dictated by the coaches.

If we are going down that route (and we've already flagged that we're considering it), the point of playing Toby Murray is it allows us to alter how we use Thilthorpe. The question is does that change to Thilthorpe structurally (and the snowball effect from that) from having a Murray in the line up improve us? If it does, then playing Murray is worthwhile. If not, then it isn't. The payoff is we get to have Thilthorpe as a key forward for 85% of the game, instead of 65%. That alone could turn him from a 60 goal forward to a 75-80 one (though, note some of these goals we already have and are being redistributed) on top of us having Thilthorpe spend longer as a bail out option and its easier to build the forward line around him. It also doesn't even close off the Thilthorpe to 2nd ruck option either if we want to go in that direction, just because now we have a big body to be a nuiscance near the goal square when he's rucking.

Don't we normally play our intended round 1 team in the final pre season game?

You wouldn’t think 2 games with 2 weeks between games would be too arduous at the beginning of the season. If you need 1 game and 3 off then there’s an issue with your preparation.

The closer you get to the season start the less it’s about experimentation and more about your round 1 team getting lots of minutes together. If we didn’t trial it against Port, I doubt it’s happening against Freo.

Well we did leave ROB out..... thats a experiment in itself.

We did it last week, now it’s a game plan!
Would appear a much improved gain plan of actually having taps to advantage of our midfield...

The only problem is we don’t have a midfield for this game.

ROB: Maybe we could try two rucks? Or rotate a bit week to week?

Sorry ROB. Lachlan McAndrew thrives on continuity and a huge workload
