And in the end Port got what it wanted......
Yeah, both club's stadium deals are awesome and we are both about to announce massive multi million dollar profits on the back of being amongst the best drawing clubs in the league. The two best attended clubs when you consider the Vic clubs crowds are boosted by playing each other at the G.

I'll use this thread as it's the only one that is active on Trigg.

Anyone find it ironic that Trigg's first move at Carlton is to listen and accept fan feedback on installing a traditional guernsey?

FFS these were two of his biggest downfalls here! Listening to the members and coming up with a respectable guernsey.
He asked for fan feedback before we changed guernseys too. He ignored it completely and chose a different design, but he did ask.

I realise that the first bit is tongue in cheek, but it is the SANFL that are the problem here. It is a constant. Could it have been any different? Doubtful. They had the stadium and the the dimwitted SA public's backing, the Albatross around both clubs necks is loosening, but unfortunately in many areas that effect the 2 AFL clubs, the 20th century relics are still in charge.

That isn't ironic. It shows that he might have actually learnt something from his past failures.

If, however, he chooses something without caring what the fans decided, then it's same ol' same ol'.

There were rumblings so long before the licenses were actually sold back to the clubs that it was going to be done. But anybody who has the slightest idea of how the SANFL operates knew damn well they weren't going to let them go until they had their hooks well and truly in place at Adelaide Oval. It really is shambolic that they have anything to do with the place.

Justin Reid for list manager?

Have other list managers from around the competition come from player management backgrounds?

I'm no expert on the subject, but there's Craig Vozzo for one.

Has that rumour picked up again has it? For what it's worth, a mate who has a very close link to Reid had told me he was over the line to be our new list manager. That was a couple of weeks ago now though, and the source has since gone overseas.

I think Vozzo went from player management to list manager for StKilda, then manager footy ops at WCE, maybe here as CEO.

Seems like something of a pathway

Except for the selection criteria required high level of business and commercial acumen which to me is not evident in those roles

Managing player contracts and salary cap is one thing however managing a footy clubs total commercial position in cost and revenue with a view of sustainable growth in the bottom line is a entirely different challenge that requires strong business and commercial acumen

True but you would probably need to know the individual candidate's circumstances. There is nothing that would eliminate them due to coming through that pathway.

Caroline Wilson on 5AA. Says they're having a board meeting as we speak. Says Justin Reid as List Manager, Mark Haysman big possibility as CEO, a couple of international prospects the Crows are looking at, someone from a Premier League team in the UK, Vozzo's name won't disappear, Ben Buckley not likely and Simon Gerard is out there too.

Seems quite chuffed with Haysman, says the AFL like him and thinks he'll do a good job as CEO.

An EPL club ?? That would be different. AFL loves Haysie because he does what they want and doesn't buck the system.

As for Justin Reid....... meh but at least it gives Noble a chance to concentrate on Football GM.

Sorry I wasn't suggesting that as a preferred pathway, just responding to question about who has come from player management into list management.

Agree though that on its face it appears this pathway is lacking commercial exposure or emphasis

How would she know about the CEO position? I think she is also speculating

would a player manager really make a good list manager?

What experience would he have to judge a good from bad player?

Has he played or coached AFL or even SANFL before? even as an assistant.

He understands business and contracts and a players financial worth but what experience can you fall back on to be qualified for the role?

Maybe doesn't need any when Noble is still the one calling the shots ahead of him.

Why hire him then?

Oh, yeah - looks like we are giving someone a pay packet under false pretences again. Like 75% of our players over the past number of years.
