They were in the vein of '' we wont play anyone who is not committed to the AFC because we dont want a Fergus Watts scenario''
Is this directed at someone, ie Meesen?

So they’re saying they won’t play him at all if he doesn’t want to be here next year, just as Watts didn’t want to? I would’ve thought the only way we’ll get value for Meesen is by playing him. So we’re taking a hardnosed approach that's for sure.

That's if it is Meesen. :p But really, who else could it be?

Not sure. It was my thought that it was directed at him

Did anyone hear these comments ( as reported to me by someone who listened )

Good, if you aren't prepared to give 110% and bleed for our club then **** off.

Freo going down tonight makes it a cigarette paper closer Stiffy. :thumbsu:

If Freo don't make the 8 he could be a big chance to come back home.
Fingers Crossed! I'm just worried what we have to give if w could give messen and all our draft picks i'd be happy with that! lol (totally not gonna happen though)

Triggy is just preparing himself for the Pavlich trade ;) :D

After what I saw tonight, would rather Brian Harris than Pavlich. Do you have any idea what we would need to give up to get Pavlich, think VB and Griff at least. No thanks.

Oh I am well aware of what it would cost and I would still do it thanks. Every time Freo lose, I get more and more confident. All we need is Freo to miss the 8 and expect Pavlich to want out and thats where we come into the picture ;) :thumbsu:

It is very unlikely we will be trading VB or Griffin, as apparantly AFC have agreed in principle to extend their contracts through to 2009. As reported in the Mail, AFC also negotiating with Thompson, Reilly & Perrie as a priority before beginning talks with McGregor, Welsh, Bode & Jericho (& I assume Meesen).

The rumours are that we are going to (finally) make a big play for Pavlich & considering Freo appear to be doing their best to waste yet another season, you would think the chances of him wanting to come home are getting better. The big issue though is what we will need to give up. Even IF Meesen wants to head home, that will only get us a small part of a Pavlich trade.

You can forget about Pavlich then. Some people here have some very short memories, anyone remember the Carey trade? Look what we had to give up there, Freo would want a hell of a lot more and it simply wouldn't be worth it. Freo would want at least two of Griffen, VB or Perrie and probably a first round draft pick to go with it. That would be extremely piss poor list management. I am not anti Pavlich but the cost simply will not justify it.

And some people have even shorter memories ;) Remember the Jarman trade? ;)

Seriously, there are NO similarities what so ever between Carey of 2002 and Pavlich of 2007. NONE what so ever. Carey was well passed his prime, on a downward spiral and had a year off footy. He was a 2 year proposition at max. Pavlich is far far away from being in that situation.

And Kane, you are right, I am hearing some very pleasing things about AFC's thoughts on having a crack at Pavlich. If it comes off, I would be a very happy chappy :D

haha jokes, I get jokes.

 So you would give up two players who look like they have the potential to be ten year players for us? And if Rutten was to go down who would take the mantle of full back?

Yeah we had to give up Sean Wellman who went on to be an extremely accomplished footballer for Essendon. Look I am not saying don't try but I hope our recruiters don't have the blinkers on like some people on this board when it comes to getting him.

We have more of a need for a key forward than a key defender. McGregor & Bock could fill a key defensive post if required.

Trust me I get that, what would you be prepared to give up for Pavlich then?

PS Ill be back later to keep discussing this going to the Coopers Ale house for a nice big schnitty lunch!
