Triple J

And jrussel, if you listen the new music show on a Sunday evening, you see that Kingsmill is far from illiterate when it it comes to music.

Have quite a few times actually.

Any band I regularly listen to he seems to get wrong.

He thought Manchester Orchestra came from England and then described them as a country rock band. Really needs to give it up.

I like a lot of the same bands as you do from what I have seen on this site and a Festival Draft we are both in, in another, but to say he is illiterate when it comes to music is just simply wrong. d

At least Manchester Orchestra (not a huge fan but I do like them) get played on triplej.

I don't listen to JJJ at all anymore. RTR FM rules here in Perth but anyone who says Kingsmill doesn't know music is outing themselves as an idiot. Guys forgotten more than you will ever know.

Wow he made a mistake on the radio! He must be illiterate!

Sounds to me like you're just trolling because you don't have the same taste in music as you do.

every band/artist i've heard that's been "unearthed" all sound like rejects from some sort of ash grunwald cloning facility to me.

none of these guys produce interesting music; just stuff that can be flogged off to hipsters who think it's "deep".

good concept, but in reality, it's balls...

I've heard them played once.

Compare that to the trillions of Foster The People plays and we're getting somewhere.

Well he did preface it with 'one of his favourite upcoming bands,' that says a bit really.

Having a different opinion doesn't mean I'm trolling at all.

I've Got Friends made it into the 2009 Hottest 100 if I remember correctly, was played an awful lot.

And I also remember hearing 'Shake it Out' before as well.

Plenty of interesting stuff out there; just have to look for it. Like any music really, easy to make broad generalisations ie 'music these days sux'

Making it into the Top 100 doesn't mean a heap though. Doesn't necessarily mean they get played much.

Many of the 50-100 list are tracks that aren't as commonly played.

That being said, I've Got Friends is pretty much the single of the album so it's inclusion isn't that much of a surprise.

the middle east are boring.
seekae are cool, i didn't know they were an unearthed band. i only heard of them by touring.

Note that JJJ is a youth radio station not a 30-somethings radio station. A lot of people don't seem to bear that in mind.

I'm in the 'target range' for JJJ I guess (22), but I find it ****ing reprehensible. Never listen to it now, but my sister does, and when I visit her, she's always playing utter shit like Aussie Hip Hop, pop-groups with little to no talent and other generic hipster shit. Then raves about how Pyramid festival was so awesome, with great bands. I ****ing hate my generation. Pack of useless *****.

This. I have listened to RTR from my early teenage years when it was 6UVSFM. When I met my now wife, she was a presenter who presented Drastic on Plastic, Out To Lunch, Morning Magazine and did some special news items for Genge and Peter Barr. She was impressed that I had a RTR sticker on my car. :thumbsu:

I have a fair bit of time for Richard Kingsmill.

Haha you've all gotten old and are in denial.

It's ok, you're not their target audience anymore.

Also this. I do actually think the presenters have all got a bit silly on JJJ, but I am 45 and they are not aiming their humour at me. Having said that, Maynard F# Crabbes was the morning presenter when JJ first started airing in Perth and there was not a lot of sophistication there.

Today Today with Chris and Craig was the last really good team of actually funny guys on JJJ.

there are a lot of very shit bands on unearthed. like suspense says, it's a good concept but there's hardly any quality.

i love reading the band bios written by the bands themselves...
"XXX's ripping guitar compliments YYY's pounding drums which aifjiajrejarkjaekrnaeknrkanrkena wankwankawnkanwknakwnakwnkawnknaknaknwknak"

that's basically what it is.

My observation of JJJ over the past 12-24 months is that it has become 'fashionable'.

What I mean by that, is that people listen to JJJ because they think it's cool. Therefore, the music that is played on it is also cool. But they play tunes for the now. How many tunes do JJJ have on rotation now days that you're going to remember well in 10 years to come? Not many that I would think of.

I don't listen to JJJ because I dislike the inconsistency of the genres they play. These days its far too much electronic music for my tastes.

give me PBS or RRR any day of the week - f*ck even Gold 104 is more enjoyable than JJJ.
wasn't always the case.
whenever I flick across these days (admittedly not often !) it's that most dire of genres playing : Aussie Hip Hop :o

This. Great station. I used to be a JJJ listener like many Gen X people but just outgrew them when I hit my 30s and now they sound like a bunch of NIDA graduates shouting attention seeking shit at me (which they are). Who I despise are friends who are my age or older and still listen to JJJ and think it's cool to do so, it just makes them look a little pathetic. I split my time between RTR and ABC Radio now and, yes, I'm old.

Try talking to us and socialising, we're not that bad.

I'm 21 and from my perspective Triple J seems like crap for hipster losers and people in there early 30s who want to act like they are still in the know.

TBF I hear that 'Restoring the balance' is back on JJJ, great stuff.

I'm 24. Listen to it at work because there's only two options: JJJ or Nova- easy choice. In my own time though i'll listen to RRR, SEN or the iPod.

I'm not sure if we have different definitions for a hipster but I really don't picture them listening to JJJ. I just can't see them listening to Bluejuice, Boy and Bear, Aussie Hip Hop, Friendly Fires, Nero, Wombats and other JJJ favs.
