We knew that last year when we walked away from Xerri.

We weren't looking for a ryder replacement, we were looking for a shaun mckernan and paul hunter replacement.

We found one for free; his name is jack hayes.
He kicked 3 goals, 18 possies and 10 marks last week.

He's not going to play first ruck in our team over Marshall who is a gun and will push for AA this year.

Ryder is gone end of the year but Max Heath is looking good and Jack Hayes makes a perfectly good second ruck who can roam around the ground taking contested marks.

We ended up with Jack Hayes, so in a roundabout way I think it worked out well for us.

So I'm no happier than anybody else, but I do want to point out the way the draw is rigged to suit the AFL's corporate interests. Already used to the sub-tropics, the AFL Suns get to go into camp for two weeks (when does North get to do the same in Hobart?), and instead of a team that might be competitive in the climate (eg Brisbane), the AFL puts in two Melbourne teams - Hawthorn lose by 67, we lose by 62. Not saying it's good enough from our lot, but throw in the standard blatant umpiring, and from the AFL perspective - job done.

Third best ruck on the wooden spooner’s list, a third rounder would be a steal for north.

not sure what he’s playing at though, things would open up for him post Goldstein (with Campbell gone or back to vfl) just as much as it would post Ryder. Unless he doesn’t fancy he’d stay ahead of Jacob Edwards in the pecking order.

He is smart after all. Get himself a contract and he’s paid.

The small handful of ordinary games english played as a 23 year old were basically him playing like Xerri on any given day.
Liability indeed.

Plus English played a pile of games where he was an out and out star as a 21 and 22 year old, something Xerri could only manage on his playstation.

Of all the blokes you could haven chosen to compare with- English would have to be up there with the worst possible.

Nuffie talk. English was always a skilled footballer physically underdeveloped.

Xerri is a lump of a lad with minimal actual AFL traits.

Players can develop their bodies. At his age if xerri isn’t skilled enough to make it in the afl it’s highly doubtful he ever will be
