Just on Walkers delisting, no matter what mistakes we have made in the past it is the right decision. I presume (read hope) what we have done is examine the numbers and potential draft pools and realised we need another spot to pick a player we expect to be available late and/or a PSD option – possibly a ruckman. As it was we no flexibility.

Q: Is Cameron Cloke eligible for the rookie list?

I'm not awfully disappointed re Walker's departure. He blew his chances quite frankly. He showed some promise in 2004, and similar to Julian Rowe - went backwards in the process.

Geez. Is Guy Richards ready to to shoulder the ruckman burden?

He needs to repay the faith shown by Malthouse, and get fit so he can play 22 games. If he fails to deliver his career would be a shambles without a doubt.

How would you be if you were Shane Wakelin?.Still playing resonable footy but waking up each day for him is like a christmas . All the young whipper snappers biting his ankles have fallen by the wayside. JCLo/CClo/Walker/Hall/ all tried down back for limited result. The back up CHB have 0 games experiance between them.

Toovey/JAnthony/Cox would be looking at next year with some hope.We have gone from a mini rebuild to a major renovation.

Frazer could just about draw up his own contract with as much cashola as he wants and Richards stocks/importance to the side have risen dramatically.

Interestingly enough because of rookie elevations I still dont think we will deviate from 2 mids with 8 & 10.

Here is the problem right here. The kids we pick up are no guarantee to be better than Cam, Walker, Fanning and Hall

No, the problem is that Cam, Walker, Fanning and Hall were guaranteed to be no better than Cam, Walker, Fanning, and Hall. Nuff said.

We've gotten rid of 10 players. Good stuff!

With ruckmen, we'll definately draft one, (maybe pick 28,) and we'll rookie one, (maybe mature-aged,) and maybe collect another somewhere as well. Could do with another KPP tall as well.

I think its the right call and I think its also a reflection of how much they rate this years draft.

Clearly they feel there is some ruck/big man talent there so be interested to see.

Looking fwd to having another pick the Phantom Draft........

Get Jarryd Morton snoopy if he's not gone. If I could pick one player that we would probably pick up it would be Morton. Some genuine mail regarding us and him.
He's actually one that I think is rated a lot higher by recruiters than by most people around the boards.

Most see him as a 20-35 pick, but I'd say he's probably more in the 10-20 range. That said, it wouldn't be totally unreasonable to pick him up at #10, if we rate him.

He has a great pedigree, he's 191cm and still young, so he's already not a bad height, but could grow to legitimate KP height as well.

Thanks for the memories Tex :thumbsu:

Now Im trying to think of the some of the good times & I can't recall any,it is one of four options;
1- My memory is screwd
2-A dose of amnesia is setting in
3-He was a good athlete but just could'nt play footy or
4- I've had WAY too many bourbons tonight!

Option 4 is a STRONG possibility BUT I am leaning to number 3 :D

Meanwhile, Collingwood has axed key-position player Tristan Walker despite having a year to run on his contract.

The club had committed to offering him a rookie contract should he fail to be selected in the national draft. He is understood to be shattered by the club's decision and is yet to decide his future.

Collingwood now has a shortage of tall players after delisting David Fanning, Brent Hall, Cameron and Jason Cloke and Walker.

Only Josh Fraser and Guy Richards remain to assume ruck duties, with forwards Anthony Rocca and Travis Cloke capable of pinch-hitting in the ruck.

Must admit ever since I did my first cut of rankings in around April/May I had him going to WCE at 15. I think he is extremely impressive and would be thrilled if he was to come to us around 28.

I think he may slip a little from 10-20 based on the fact the others in that group have real x factor whereas he presents as dependable/solid. In many ways though I suspect I would have said the same about Embley.

Here is the problem right here. The kids we pick up are no guarantee to be better than Cam, Walker, Fanning and Hall and if they are going to be better they will not show it for 2 or 3 years. I felt that Cam was dealt with harshly, only getting 2 years on the list and I still believe he would be of more service to the club than Keating.

Here's the thing. Cam actually had 4 years on the list(first season 2003) has had 3 shoulder opps(pls dont mention judd as rucks kpps need their shoulders alot more the mids) He is slow and has average skills. The others mentioned simply cannot play football IMO. Of course there are no guarantees but you will never go forward by holding into ordinary footballers just because you have a shortage in that possie. Your better to take a risk and draft a young bloke who could be alot better. Keeping josh fit and healthy is a concern but these blokes are not up to it and had to go.

I just can’t fathom this bit. I’m actually against rookie listing Walker but why the hell would the club do it now? Surely it was a decision for his last contract negotiation? What this says to me is they will use a rookie list spot on Walker because if he doesn’t get drafted they will have to pay him anyway. May as well rookie him of we are going to pay. I’d be ok with that if there wasn’t a better prospect but I doubt that would be the case.

Its only one year. I think its a good solution, and a positive to have at least one "rookie" as a fully developed player instead of a skinny 17 year old. Most rookies fail anyway, so its no great loss if we pick him ahead of somebody else. He'd want to be 100% fit though, and he hasnt been fit for the past 2 years.

Yeah maybe they could have done it last year, and surely they should have delisted Hall and J Cloke last year too, but whats done is done.

If we were going to re-rookie someone, I'd rather it be Cam Cloke, but as Mark says, it's likely to be the case that we figure that we have to pay Tex anyway...
