Which Australian took 3-40 in the first ever ODI in Melbourne in 70/71?

No peeking at the scorecard remember. :)

Hint - he wasn't a front line bowler.

Sherb gets the chocolates. And there are some places already selling Easter eggs.
I eat too much chocolate as it is. :)

2 wickets to each bowler?
That is correct - it was the first time that 5 bowlers (and 5 bowlers only) each took 2 wickets. It has only happened three other times - but not for nearly 100 years.

It sounds like it should be something that has happened quite a few times, but has only happened 4 times in over 2000 test matches (as a guess that's at least 5000 complete innings).

I remember reading that scorecard as a kid and being charmed by the symmetry of the bowling statistics. Pre-internet there was no way of telling if it had happened any other time (I wasn't going to go through every scorecard) - when Cricinfo statsguru started it was one of the first things I looked for, and I must confess, i was a little disappointed to find it did happen a couple of other times.

Ok - now for a one-answer only question.
We are all having a bit of a dip at our current selectors - but they could be worse. When was an Australian Test squad sent to England, with the designated 2nd keeper having never kept wicket in his life?

I'm pretty sure it's not 1985, but that sort of question is the perfect cue for a crack at Wayne Phillips.
Follow up question: Is this the only time the two wicketkeepers on a tour have shared the same surname, Ray Phillips being the back up keeper?

I can't remember which tour it was, but it was when they sent the Tasmanian Kenny Burn along as the backup keeper. Early 1890s maybe?

Being a Tasmanian I remember that one. ;)

Last 5 wickets made more runs than the first 5 wickets in each innings????
Yes, and considerably so in a couple of cases.
Tas 1st: First five wickets 13 runs, second five wickets 213 runs.
NSW 1st: 27 runs, 111 runs
Tas 2nd: 83 runs, 176 runs
NSW 2nd: 108 runs, 138 runs
So the combined first five wickets total for the match was 231 runs, the second five wickets total 638 runs.

Not sure whether you are asking in relation to Australia specifically, but this would have happened for West Indies when the unrelated Deryck and David Murray toured England in 1973 and 1980, India and Pakistan in 1974-75, and Australia in 1975-76 and 1979-80.
