I know Andy Roberts also suffered this fate during England's second innings of the third Test of the 1976 series (the Grovel series). Early in the innings Roberts dismissed Brian Close and Bob Woolmer in successive balls but missed a hat trick. Later in the innings Roberts had Alan Knott caught in the gully and then Derek Underwood taken at third slip next ball. Roberts then had to wait while Wayne Daniel bowled a maiden and then there was a drinks break. Roberts then came in to bowl his hat trick ball at Mike Selvey, who edged the ball to slip where Gordon Greenidge dropped it and knelt for a few seconds with his head bowed as Roberts showed his disappointment. Selvey stuck around for 49 minutes before he was eventually dismissed, this time successfully caught by Greenidge off Roberts for 4. This ended the game, giving West Indies victory by 425 runs.
