Reading of the passing of John Jameson brought me to his 465 partnership shared with Rohan Kanhai, then back to highest first-class partnerships.

Kanhai is one of 15 men who have been involved in multiple 400+ partnerships, though no one has yet been involved in 3. The list also includes Bradman, Ponsford, Worrell, Jadeja (both Ravindra and Ajay), Sanga, Mahela, Neil McKenzie and surprisingly Darren Bicknell.

350+ partnerships are headed by Pujara, Ponsford and Bradman with 5. Herbert Sutcliffe has the most triple hundred partnerships with 10, followed by Vijay Hazare on 9. Bradman and Patsy Hendren both have 8.

Not sure where to post, but would this Ireland v England game contain the largest gap in ages between both captains in an international game. Stirling who is 35 (feels a lot older than that) and Bethell who is 21. Wonder if anyone can think of others

Actually, this is one of those cases where it might need a "full member" qualifier. Because in this match, the Falkland Island captain was 56 and the Costa Rica captain was 30.

And he himself is only the eighth oldest T20I player of all time....

Since every T20 Match got T20I status, there's been some ridiculous records. Do yourself a favour and check out the list of oldest T20I players...

Nawab of Pataudi was 21 and Frank Worrell 37 in this test match:

Will take some beating, I reckon.

Test record is probably this match. I’ll try and confirm later when I get the chance. W G Grace was 50 and Joe Darling was 28.

Spent far too much time confirming against my data set of c.1800 Tests to the late noughties, there are some minor mistakes in the analysis but Grace/Darling seems to be more than four years ahead of the next largest gap (Grace/Harry Trott at just over 18 years). At least I worked out a couple of nifty SQL tricks in the process.

Without wishing to tempt fate or cast doubt on cricinfos oldest living players list, this is the earliest test where both keepers are still alive. Nz’s Trevor McMahon and C T Patankar of India, in his only test. Nari Contractor and John Guy were also playing.

For what I now believe to be the earliest instance for any pair of players from either side, Neil Harvey faced Garry Sobers in April 1955.

has to be the greatest debut of all time too. Taking 8/43 and then hitting 38* and 72* coming in number 10
Greatest all round debut for sure. Would argue Hirwani, Massie and Lawrence Rowe had better debuts in their specialities, maybe even tip foster as well
