Has the ban for trolling gone too far? Have we limited freedom of speech to suit narrow views? As Australians should we embrace open comment even if we don't agree with it?
Trolls say things they don’t believe in order to get a response and wreck things.

They also amp up the worst parts of things they might actually believe in order to wreck things.

They are insincere, and not looking for a discussion or to take part in a conversation. They are there to ruin the conversation.

So TBH I say **** them.

But you have a mind, you can cut the chaff from reality, and this is a god given gift, sometimes your right, but sometimes youre wrong. The thing is you have a choise, and choise is a human condition. No other animal in this world has it.

Okay so you have officially gone weird.

Also, that was even before you started talking about having a ‘choise’.

Edit: might have been when you said ‘God given’

And what is your religious upbringing?
Catholic Mum, heathen Dad, Catholic primary school etc.

I honestly couldn’t even imagine how this thread becomes more strange, but then you asked me about my religious upbringing

The time is coming when people will rebel against prohibition of free speech.
I think you, like many do not understand what free speech is.

You are free to say whatever you want - you arent going to jail for it.

In communist / fascist countries if you say el presidente/ the general secretary is an xxxxxxx

Secret police come to your house, drag you to a van, take you to a shit encrusted dungeon and kick the living crapola out of you.

From there they either keep kicking / wiring your privates up to the city power grid until you are dead / sign the piece of paper admitting your crimes and disappear off to the salt mines.

In democracies you can say abbott/ sco mo / rudd / gillard are roaring spunkmonkeys that have no idea etc etc

No one is throwing you in jail for it!!

Thats freedom of speech.

What you are after is the freedom of consequences as a result of your speech.

Thats completely different.

Take this example - i come to your house for dinner and say your mrs cooks like shit.

Im free to say this - you are also free to tell me to fo and not come back.

You are free to say what you want but there may be consequences for it. Walk into work and call your boss a useless dickhead. See how long you last - he isnt jailing you for what you said - he just chooses not to work with you any more.

Same on this forum - they set rules around what they do and dont want said - if you dont like them - you are free to start your own forum with your own rules or lack thereof.

If you break them here you will get arseholed. Trust me- i know

What's your favourite shade of blue?

Barnaby Joyce once had to make a Barnaby choice. He chose the younger unattractive lady over his own family.

As a man of god you would do the same?

Thank you for your reasoned argument, it makes sense in the context you portray, but there is another context, much older, its called the MAGNA CARTA, a vey old English epitome which decrees the right of the Englishman. First and foremost is the Right of Free Speech. Free speech which is still valued today.

as another poster said, i think you don't really understand what 'free speech' is.

You are free to say whatever nonsense you want.

Deliberately derailing threads or being unnecessarily rude or personal with other members has nothing to do with free speech. As I said, you can say whatever you want ... Bigfooty doesn't have to publish it if they don't want.

It would be a free speech issue if you wrote something, and then received a letter from a lawyer or a knock on the door from the police the next day.

You can download a copy of Wordpress and start your own website.

Nobody is stopping you.

I just love it when people spout off about things they have nfi about.

The magna carta was written for nobles who felt oppressed by taxes and the useless king they had.

It had sfa to do with anything bar the king ceding some of his power to them

It had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the common man who at that time was basically a chattel - the free speech you refer to is that of parliamentary privilege not the free speech which you espouse yet still clearly dont understand.

Do people seriously have 'religious upbringings' these days?

I thought Jesus was a character on Who's The Boss or Growing Pains when I was a kid.

Religion never got a look in in my upbringing.

I thought that shit only happened in the movies.
