Troy's body was eventually recovered. His funeral service was very well attended as I recall.Did they ever find his body?
Many washed out to sea never to be seen again.
Mmmmm... I managed to spare a thought for the poor lad when I was in Thailand in January this year (already feels like an eternity ago). One thing I noticed straight away with the three major beaches in Phuket (Patong, Karon and Kata) is that they're very wide. Probably not so much Patong, but the other two take ages to get from the water's edge to the very back of the beach.
It's not like St Kilda where if you see something coming you can quickly jump up and be on the boulevard walkway within seconds. Out there there's absolutely nothing to grab hold of if you had minimal warning.
Phi Phi's kind of sheltered, so nothing would really happen there unless an earthquake occured in the bay directly south or north of it. Beaches are normal width, although the town is very low lying. Any tsunami could go through one bay and end up in the other. :SThat's a pretty scary thoughtI've always imagined what it would be like if it happened here and I've imagine the beaches there to be like St Kilda where you can be at the waters edge but get to the bottom of Chapel in a matter of seconds. Scary to think my brothers on Phi Phi Island as we speak,
I was in Pattaya Thailand at the time and every one was in a state of shock thinking that it could just as easily been them.
Life is too short so make the most of every day.
150km S/E of Bangkok. In the bay there, and protected, but a lot of holidayer goers were probably coming back from the Phuket region or planned on going there next. I'd be shitting myself if I were in the country and only being a few days off my schedule from being at the wrong place at the wrong time.Isn't Pattaya on the other side of the Malay Peninsula?

Had a family friend staying in a hotel in NYC on September 11 2001. had an appointment at the WTC, ate too much for tea, fell asleep, missed the appointment...you know the restAh yes, the "OMFG, I had been there a month later and a staying at a different hotel.." reaction.
Yeah there's a few incredible stories floating around with S11. Ian Thorpe apparently left his hotel to visit the building, realised he forgot his camera, walked all the way back and decided to turn on the tv while he got himself a drink or something, saw breaking news about the WTC attacks, looked out the window of his hotel and thought "you've got the be kidding".Had a family friend staying in a hotel in NYC on September 11 2001. had an appointment at the WTC, ate too much for tea, fell asleep, missed the appointment...you know the rest

I believe a group of Bulldog players (can't remember whether they were AFL or NRL) were also meant to go up but decided to ditch it for a BBQ.

Surprised Phi Phi got hit, but it does stick out of that little bay a bit. Perhaps not sheltered enough.Ummm....
Troy Broadbridge was in Phi Phi and was not in Phuket if a wave that size hits the beach you are on you need to run further than the edge of the sand.
