Being 'in the system' could many many things:

- they know he is supposed to be in the area at the time it happened
or
- it's confirmed he was in the area at the time it happened and know nothing else
or
- it's confirmed he wasn't in the area at the time but are yet to establish contact
or
- it's confirmed he was in the area at the time and despite best efforts can't be located and is officially missing
or
- he's been found in good shape
or
- he's been found in a hospital
or
- any other number of horrible things.

There are thousands and thousands of people currently in 'systems' around the place, and it's unfortunate but it's going to take a long long time to work through. And regardless of the outcome being good or bad, it's only right they don't give out the info to just anyone and let the family know first.

All true, most people 'in the system' will turn up ok, having not been somewhere where somebody thought they might have been or simply they haven't contacted anyone relevant confirming they are safe.

But the really worrying aspect of Broadbridge's case is that his wife is confirmed as safe.

Have any other heard/seen/read the news of the Carlton lads. I can't find it anywhere on news websites - it would be a disgrace if it was a farce (not suggesting it is, just wanting confirmation).

Its only 2.45 here in Perth, so we arnt hearing nothing.....I only heard because I come inside wish I had of stayed out in the sun!!

And if someone had come up to you before their safety was announced and said something like "If they haven't been confirmed safe by now chances are they won't be", I doubt you'd take it rationally.

Granted Troy isn't a good mate of everyone here, and there probably is merit to TP's comment, I don't think right now is the time to come out with that while everyone else is giving their prayers and hopes that he is found safe and well.

If by today one of my friends had been accounted for and not the other, i'd be fearing the worst. Fortunately, that wasn't the case.

Troy's wife has turned up safe and he hasn't. Obviously everyone (including TP no doubt) hopes he turns up safe so the personal attacks in the thread are unnecessary.

Baby found alive on floating mattress

A 20-day-old baby has been found alive floating on a mattress in her parent's damaged restaurant in northern Malaysia after the region was slammed by tsunami, reports said on Tuesday.

The child, identified as S. Tulasi, was sleeping in a room at the restaurant when the huge waves struck on Sunday in the holiday resort of Penang. The swirling waters swept her parents out of the restaurant.

Luckily, however, they later managed to claw their way back to the badly damaged building.

"Thank God the mattress was floating in about 1.5-metre deep water and my baby was crying," the baby's father, A. Suppiah, told the national news agency Bernama.

Demon missing in tsunami disaster

Melbourne defender Troy Broadbridge has been reported missing among the chaos and devastation of the tsunami disaster in Thailand.

Broadbridge, 24, was on his honeymoon with his new wife Trisha in Phuket when the tsunami hit on Sunday. Trisha is confirmed safe, however Broadbridge has not been located.

Melbourne chief executive Steve Harris said the club was devastated by the latest news.



"Troy is a great player and team-mate, our thoughts are with his family and wife Trisha," Harris said.

"We all feel particularly helpless at this time as all we can do is sit and wait for news."

The Melbourne players are currently on leave and are desperately awaiting news of their team mate.

Club officials are in contact with the family and the Melbourne Football Club Chaplain has been made available to all players and staff.

Tall and mobile with plenty of poise, Broadbridge was one of the most improved players on the Melbourne list in 2004 after being sidelined for much of the previous season with knee and shoulder injuries, playing 14 matches for a career total of 40.

He was a key factor behind the Demons' push to the finals in 2004 after the club's disappointing 2003.

Broadbridge was elevated from Melbourne's rookie list in 2000 after being recruited from Port Adelaide in the SANFL.

From what I heard he saved his wife and got taken into sea, I hope he is okay and hope that his family and friends can get through this difficult time in their lives.

I have my fingers crossed for the safe recovering of Troy and any one else that is missing. Athough for many hundreds of the missing that is a vain hope I am afraid.

Without wanting to appear too self indulgent at a time when many have died and are still missing, my Japanese wife and I are counting our lucky stars that we cancelled our proposed Xmas/New Year trip to Phuket about 4 weeks ago as we going to stay at a Patong Beach resort, which would have placed us right in the path of the Tusnmai!!!

We cancelled our trip because we couldn't afford the expense to go to Australia as well have a holiday in Thailand.

For once in my life a lack of money was a blessing.

Swept out to sea after helping his wife onto a ledge as the waves came to them. Extremley sad. Just have to have hope now although it is looking very grim.

No need to apologise for it mate. Thousands of people have been tragically killed but that didn't stop me feeling relieved last night when I heard from my mates. Several others I know are in Bali at the moment and chose that over Thailand simply because it was cheaper.

Such a terrible tragedy and the missing footballers put faces to it. Just awful.

I think I speak for all Swans supporters as well. The thoughts and prayers of all of us are with the family and friends of Troy.

Terrible news for Troy, his family and friends, Melbourne and AFL generally.

Ch 9 news said he was washed out to sea after lifting his wife onto a balcony - sounds pretty bad if he hasn't been seen for 2 days.
