Re: Troy Broadbridge

why werent the carlton boys on the news or arent they officially missing yet??

Re: Troy Broadbridge

Perspective.

10,000 Sri Lankans dead and climbing. 1.5 mil displaced. Diseases yet to come.

A bloke I know through work, his wife and 3 kids, 11,15 and 20, with them, immigrants from Sri Lanka, are holidaying in Sri Lanka. Honest, polite and hard working. Couldn't meet a better bloke. None of us have heard anything, yet.

Re: Troy Broadbridge

Not great news at all. Once again it kind of annoys me that just because he is a footballer he gets put on a higher pedastool than the rest of the missing australians.

Thank god it wasn't Colin Sylvia. There would have been some mass tears on this board.

Re: Troy Broadbridge

More than 20 aussies are now missing or confirmed dead (6)
Done a bit of searching and have found nothing on the carlton players.
I can't imagine what a tsunami is like. However I'd imagine that T Broadbridge would have been a good swimmer, so if just a case of getting swept out to sea (like a rip) T Broadbridge would have better chance than most of surviving.

this is very sad new not just about Broadbridge but all people dead/missing/injured.
who are the Carlton boys that are missing?

I believe they are Ryan Houlihan and David Clarke but that is only heresay as I haven't seen any public statement or confirmation from the C.F.C.

I only hope for them and their family's sakes that it is only a misinformed rurmour.

Its a WORLDWIDE disaster!! We feel it because Australians are involved...My best mate a Kiwi and her family were missing ......I didnt know if they were alive or dead until late last night. I thank god I can pick up where we left off a few days ago.

As a South Australian that lives in WA my heart aches for ALL THOSE in this affected by this. People are people, not matter whom or what country they come from.

Jaymin I dont think anyone is putting anyone on a pedastool here...it just brings out the deep concern and hopeless we all feel.

Its more than football.....its people......Australians, Englishman, Kiwis, Sri Lankas, Thia's, Indians.......its everyone. And its bloody bloody sad :(

We are Australians.....we pull together, we put difference aside when it counts, and thats why no matter whom it is....from what walk of life....it hurts, it really hurts that so many people are involved!!

Re: Troy Broadbridge

Where i work i looked after a little boy(hes now at school, and i was looking after his sister), he usually goes to indonesia on school holidays, i have no idea if he decided to go there this year, have no idea if hes still alive, and i wont know until i go back to work and give them a call. And another girl i work with, her sister was in taihland just a few weeks ago and got back last week i think it was, so so lucky. This is so sad, i cant imagine what these familys are going through.

Terrible news for Troy, his family and friends, Melbourne and AFL generally.

Ch 9 news said he was washed out to sea after lifting his wife onto a balcony - sounds pretty bad if he hasn't been seen for 2 days.

Those who pray, please pray. Rest of us just hope and wish.

And those who dont...... know would be a good time to start

What do you want us to do? Start a thread for everyone who has been affected? ********ing ********. That last comment is totally unnecessary.

Oi, get lost.

The reason it is mentioned is a footballer is someone we are likely to know. It humanises the story and to hear you moan about footballer being in it is saddening.

The guy even if not a footballer by all accounts is a true hero. To put the life of a loved one ahead of himself shows you what a terrific person he is.

oh dear, I would suggest if anyone has nothing supportive to say on this thread , Don't bother at all.

Re: Troy Broadbridge

This is so very sad.

My thoughts and prayers are with Troys family and friends in this trying time.

May you be safe Broady.

Re: Troy Broadbridge

Just heard this on the news expecting to hear something about Houla and Clarkey. Completely ignored this thread until then expecting it to be some sort of football related topic.

Reading the details on here have given me a cold chill. I pray that Troy has survived.

Generally speaking, this is a massive tragedy. I can't begin to imagine what these countries are going through. My thoughts go with all of them.

Re: Troy Broadbridge

As someone said elsewhere, a face, and a name that we know, makes it all seem so close and personal.

There are well over 20,000 other faces and names, we don't know them, but we do not care any less for them or their network of family & friends.

It's just those that we know, are close to us all.

The tragedy has happened, we cannot help the dead, but we can help the suffering millions who now are lost without home or source of income

Let us all now hope that the "Brotherhood of Mankind" truly lives up to its name

Re: Troy Broadbridge

very very sad indeed. i hope he is found safe and well.

however, lets not forget their are other people missing who are not footballers. and even more dead. this is a great tragedy.

2 weeks ago i was in phuket staying at a hotel that is now nothing more than a wet tip. the waves hit at 9am, i would have been in bed along with my brother. my parents would have been on their daily walk along the beach (which they did at this exact time every morning before breakfast). its so hard to imagine what my life would be like right now if that quake hit 2 weeks earlier. scary.

That is one of the worst calls I have ever seen on this board. Get a clue.

Re: Troy Broadbridge

Having someone known in the tragedy does make it 'real' for many people. It goes from being yet another distant horror on your TV screen to something that touches you. The shock is palpable.

I found this out when in the early 80's when my friend from school (in Year 7) went home with his family to Italy for a holiday... and was killed in the earthquake that he had the misfortune of being near.

The shock felt by this group of 12 & 13 year olds is something that has stayed with me since.

As PortProudWA said, of course we care about those we dont know and are from another country, yet this really hits home because aussies are involved - in particular footballers because we've spoken to them, idolised them, and put our dreams on their backs. Its almost on a personal level with footballers, that's why so many of us are devastated and focussing on the footballers, whilst also thinking about the tens of thousands of others who have also lost their lives and loved ones.

Re: Troy Broadbridge

Very very sad news... hope he comes out of it as good as new... but worrying signs :( Hope all this disaster does not continue in future. Not just the australians but evry one involved :(
