off the top of my head i would say McCaffer, Stevens (WC) or even savage at the hawks

not possible
Meh not McCaffer, Stevens maybe although I dont like his kicking it's a bit Ben Doolan like, Savage yeah I could a use for him.

But I think someone we should look at getting is someone from North Melbourne, Ben Cunnington even Bastinac. Both highly respected but North has so many players that are similiar, they need that extra leg speed with X Factor and they need key position players, especially down back and Petrie aint getting younger (Tarrant might be that man for them).

Neither player will come at bargain basement, Cunnington probably the cheaper but North needs to do something to take the next step creating opportunity for us to pounce.

Players like Firrito, Edwards, McIntosh and Petrie won't be around for much longer. Fletchers they are not. North will have plenty of room under the cap and will want to keep Cunnington and Bastinac.

Will cost you too much, especially as you are using your 1st round pick for Daniher. Bastinac is signed until the end of 2014 (press release here) and Cunnington is too (press release here). So for them to break their contract, you will have to pay more than they are worth. Nearly all our good players are signed up. Guys like Firrito, despite being a free agent, probably won't get much interest, and wouldn't leave anyway. We do have an abundance of key position players, whilst few are stars, it's a shame a guy like Cam Pedersen isn't getting regular games.

Doesn't mean he's any good.
I never implied he was, just gave a reason why his name keeps getting linked to Essendon as you asked the question. It has a Ryley Dunn Factor to it, he was a top 10 pick for Fremantle from Murray Bushrangers, he kept getting linked to Essendon year after year, was never really upto AFL standard though.

So players never get traded because they have contracts? and if they do there trade value increases? Well lets sign Steinberg to a 4 year contract then, no no lets make it 5 and then North will obviously have to give us either a draft pick and or another player alongside cunnington to sweeten the deal?

All a contract means is a club doesnt have to trade a player? All I said was if North wants to go places they need some KPP talent. They also lack leg speed and the only player that is coming along to help them out in that area is Atley, he's the keeper. A player like Cunnington is expendable providing you get some quality need in return, im not saying we offer Steinberg.

Dont get me wrong I rate North Melbournes midfield as up and coming it just needs a tweak or two, you have too many of the same i.e. Swallow, Ziebell, Cunnington, Adams.

And Essendon is the opposite, we have an abundance of talented KPP but we need to tweak it a little to get another middy. If we are to go places we need to cut a KPP to get a middy.

I think we can help you and I think you can help us, thats my opinion.

The last thing Essendon need is Chaplain, you have far better KPD in Pears, Hooker and Carlisle in my opinion who are also younger.

Essendon should concentrate on Caddy, Boak or any other quality mid that is potentially available.

Bombers are two quality mids away from contesting the flag.

I don't think you read the articles I linked to where both players state they want to stay at the club (pretty obvious given they've signed extensions). So if neither North or the player wants them to go I can't see how you can get them to Essendon, since it was you who brought up their names. The only thing I could think would be that you offer crazy money to the player, or a crazy trade that is in North's favour.

Did Josh Kennedy want to leave Carlton?

It's Essendon making a trade with North for needs puposes.

You just agreed with my point - Kennedy left, but Carlton got Judd. ie For you to get either Cunnington or Bastinac you will have to offer the player and/or North something crazy. Who are you proposing in the trade?

hence why i originally stated, and then repeated that neither would be traded unless it was for a player of quality that North Melbourne could fully utilise to take them to legitimate top 4 contenders i.e. the next step.

no way am i offering up a player it would be lose/lose situation for me, if I offer someone thats 50/50 Essendon supporters would bag me for offering too much and you would bag me by saying im dreaming.

and for the final time I rate your midfield players but you have too much of the same, its not about players wanting to stay or if they are signed, it's about the club taking that next step, whats the missing ingredients, how do they get there, its about the club taking a deep breath self analysing itself and making a sacrifice to make a gain in the future ala Geelong when they traded Brent Maloney a very handy player who has shown more then cunnington at same stage and who pleaded to stay so they could get Brad Ottens.

so please I plead with you to misinterpret my point yet again.
