GWS will probably go for him, unless...

...picture the scene...

Troy exits the family home and is walking up the street...
The side door of a parked van slides open...
A voice from inside calls "hey, kiddo!". Troy peers in and sees his brother beckoning him closer...
Troy steps nearer...
Suddenly, two brutes in balaclavas (josh hunt and chappy) bundle him into the van, which then speeds off to KP.

Hey presto, two Menzels in hoops! ;-)

For a minute there I thought you were going to offer him a packet of boiled lollies!

A mate of mine works in recruiting at Hawthorn. He has stressed to me numerous times that there is NO WAY Troy will make it to 16, no matter how much I complain & argue with him!

He reckons without any knee injuries he would have been top 3 according to the guys at the Hawks. HUGE wraps on the kid, and even with his knees, won't make it past top 10.

I'm still praying he's wrong.

Im afraid I agree. If you consider that GWS has a good group inside kids , if hey take Whitfield , Toumpas , Grundy and then take a kid good enough to be top 5 @ 12 in Menzel... all in the one draft. Man it almost makes one cry. ( and thats if others don't take him earlier ) Port may think take him @ 7 and go real hard at Dan next time he is OOC.

There were a few positive comments in Troys interview
How he used to support Coll but now follows the Cats thanks to Dan.
How he'd love to play with In the same team as Dan
But the one that got me was that he'd been down at the club trained with the boys and got to see first hand how Dan/Geelong go about their business.

Does anyone know who else from this years draft has done the same?
Jordan Burke . . . . Anyone else?

Jake Stringer a couple of years ago I believe.

Jordan Murdoch's brother Brodie did as well I believe

love the look of the highlight reel up on the club website. hope he falls to us, although i think as others have said GWS at pick 12 or 14 can take the punt. hope he roots sheedy's the night before the draft.

i think if he's available at 16 he's the type wells would go for, given he didn't shy away from varcoe despite his injuries

I don't think Port can afford to take the risk with the state of their list, realistically guys like Mayes and Kennedy (if Toumpas is gone by 7) are locals of equally top range talent with much less risk.

GWS and GC holding those picks in the teens is the worry for me, given the amount of first rounders they have on their lists, they can probably afford to take the risk.

I think it's an outside chance he gets to 16, but I hope he does.

I've accepted we won't get him :( hope I'm surprised but not holding my breath.

Yeah and that other shit bloke with the dodgy knees we got... Seltree or something? I think he's our captain now o_O

This sounds crap but I hope he's made enough of a fuss (i.e. you get me for two years and no more) that other clubs will just leave him alone.

Yes if Hayes/Kennedy/Menzel are there it will be interesting for them. Seems mayes has dropped out a favour. If Toumpas is there then no question at all he goes to Port but the others.. not sure. There is an element of Selwood to it. I not sure anyone would dispute that Menzel is the best player , do they go past the best when all say the knees are ok? I can only hope.

If Mayes get to us he would be a good get as well. Yes he may be a little less dynamic , perhaps less hard but boy he has all the tools to be a must pick player. Would look very good in a good side

I have just noticed that Troy is a lefty. He has now gone up a notch in my estimation.

But I still think that he will end up elsewhere.

Mirror of the brother. Emma Quale say's he will not last past 12 to GWS. Possibly could end up being the best player in the draft. So no matter what he wants or we wish , we probably should be looking at other options. To think some people were questioning a while ago whether we should take him at 16 ..

Rumours that GWS are keen with pick three and WB are also keen, do not like our odds.

Sad but likely true...so I guess Kennedy, another lefty and a real goer, is the next one on the Rabbi list?

Hope so....

Bring in the redhead Vlaustin ( think I spelt it right). He would slot in nice.
we are short a bluey in the mids......

Go Catters

I think we have enough contested ball winning mids+he is pretty slow so I don't think that he is the best option for us. I reckon we will ideally go for Menzel/Stringer/Garlett (if they're available) or a KPD even if they are not necessarily worth a first round pick, solely because we need one to groom for 2-3 years time when Lonergan retires.

They have one in the pipeline. Give him a couple of seasons to stack on some muscle. He is athletic, can take a grab (see above) and is 194 cm. He can play both ends too. Versatility. Scott desires it.

Now back to Troy Menzel.

I don't get the call for a KPD with our first round pick, our first pick last year was one, if we get one it will be with our second pick.

Agreed.

Rivers fills the immediate hole and we have Hamling developing for the future.

I wouldn't be completely surprised if we took Sully at 79 but i'd be borderline staggered if we took a KPD with pick 16.
