Past Troy Menzel

The more I see of Menzel the more I see glimpses of the great Alex Jesaulenko. At times he moves in a cat-like manner like Jezza did & despite not having Jezza's leap, he has other similar freakish qualities like Jezza.

Not for a minute am I suggesting Menz will be as good as Jezza, but along the journey he is going to do some exciting things, much like Jezza consistently did.

Leading the goal kicking by 5. I know in terms of our season it's not great, but it's an impressive achievement for a second year player who doesn't have the best tank yet and has been sub multiple times and been injured.

We should cut Menzel some slack considering he has only had one full pre-season. Yet he really needs to build his engine to improve his tackling and one per centers. Our forwardline would be one of the easiest for defenders to escape from.

19 goals in 12 odd games is a good return for a player who has been named as the sub this year. On track to develop into a 40 to 50 goal a season player.

Carlton keen to unleash Troy Menzel in midfield in 2015

“We would love to see him get some time through the midfield, it is certainly an aspiration over the next year or two. He has been acclimatising to league football but we would love to see him running through the midfield.

“It gives our midfield a bit of a rest to have guys like him rotating through there as well.”

Can't wait to see Troy in his 3rd season at the club.

Just a very special talent who could easily be the best player at the club in the next few years.

You wouldn't want to move him away from goals on a permanent basis but someone with his talent would be a wonderful bonus to play through the midfield in spurts.

I agree. No doubting his skill set and bag of tricks but he is also big and strong with a bit of mongerel in him. Hates being beaten and is confident enough to back himself not to be, a bit like Joel Selwood in that regard.

Only knock on him is that he looks like a Port Adelaide player... A comment from Tom Harley that was Darcyesque in its stupidity.

Say that again.............

I was shocked when Harley said that. I thought for all money he'd say he looked like a Geelong player.

Troy looking for midfield time

“I’m doing everything at the moment, which is good for me because the last couple of years I haven’t really had much of a pre-season, so it’s definitely good to come back and be straight into it,” Menzel said.

“It will give me a lot of confidence going into round one if I can get through this full pre-season – it will give me a really good fitness base to work on from there.”

Mr not so bright, Luke Darcy tried commenting what a great story for Carlton fans early in season for Daniel Menzel to come back from serious injury and look so damn good against Eagles. Ummm Darcy, you fool, his name is Troy Menzel and you are thinking of his older brother at Geelong. If I have to listen to Luke Darcy as a specialist comments man another season on channel 7 I'm not going to be happy. How do clowns like he and Tony Shaw keep their jobs?

Take comfort in the fact that Mr Darcy was in charge of appointing the Dogs' new coach. What a raging success that is going to be :p

I have to say that I didn't think I'd be seeing a thread titled "Past Player- Troy Menzel" any time soon.

I'm sorry to see his potential go, but I'm not sorry to see Troy go. Does that make sense?

Can't say I was impressed with his season this year. Weak hearted players with no fight aren't required at a rebuilding blues.
