Sooner this bloke is out of the club the better, his reign has been an unmitigated disaster.

He could've just kept to the facts instead of bringing up the GF and looking like a buffoon - which is now the headline instead of umpiring corruption.
This, the club can not be happy with these headlines. That’s what happens when your Football Director is a Buffoon media identity

I'm assuming it is all about sooking South Aussies, complaining about the superior Victorians....

Victorians are the most pathetic, scared and insular sports people in Australia. So no surprise really.

In reality, the AFL should absolutely be investigating this guy. Of course they won't, because they will be too scared to find out the truth. What if they go through his accounts and find he received a big payment after that week? What do they do then?We raised it as suspicious and they shut it down, backed him in and did nothing. Finding the truth now would be catastrophic for the AFL. They absolutely don't want to know.

I called it at the time - this was clear cheating. I said at the time that the AFL should be investigating for betting irregularities. There is no way a 17-1 free kick count just happens. (And if I remember correctly the one free he paid to us wasn't actually an in play free. It was something else he had to pay).
It's not an accident or 'bad day'. It's not. To claim that is either deliberately lying or being utterly incompetent.
My memory--possibly faulty--is that the free he paid to us was in the 4th quarter with the game decided. It was to Rory Sloane in the goal square, and he kicked a goal.

all this does is piss people off, in a no win situation.
If the AFL turn around now and say he was corrupt!! That would make us all feel more angry and frustrated, there is no way the outcome can change !! All it does if fuel our anger against the AFL and make us believe we will always get screwed.

That idiot in charge back then Evens needs to be held accountable for his actions and needs to be a scapegoat in all honesty. He saw the highlights and ticked off on it.

The time has come to make the umpires full time and do their best not to let Victorian umpires umpire games between them and interstate teams to cut the corruption and bias. We can’t change the past but can hope that they can fix the future.

Ps. Worst game I saw was between us and the swans in Sydney when the cheating umpire gave a free against D Jarman every time he went near the ball, think it was 1998 but not completely sure

I think Pyke was on board to the extent that he wanted the group to go through some sports psychology to toughen them up, but I dont think he had anything to do with the selection process. Burton had previously put CM forward at Brisbane (and was rejected) and put them up to Adelaide. I was told the due diligence done on CM by AFC was "inadequate". Pyke wasnt really part of that process, it was signed off by the Board.
Another example of our board being poor decision makers.

Anyone with half a brain knew CM are a sham.

He was also umpiring in the Adelaide vs Sydney game late in the 2017 season when he punished Betts for a 50 after we had all the momentum after a huge comeback. Betts should have gotten a free after a great tackle and gave away 50 Betts got mad (and rightly so) for the free against. It cost us the game. We did have top spot sealed on the ladder regardless of the result. Adelaide has not beaten Sydney at home ever since and twice they should have because of rubbish decisions.

It was also the same game that Franklin could have possibly been pinged for running too far.

Can someone confirm my memory is correct that the 1 free he paid in a marking contest, we marked it anyway?
I don't believe so. When I skimmed through the 4th quarter I saw him give Sloane a free kick in the goal square after he's pushed in the back trying to shepherd a kick at goal through. The ball misses being a goal by about a foot, and goes through after the whistle so if you were to be cynical you could consider the possibility that he thought it was going to be a goal anyway.

Damn I liked mine better

Having a laugh that Roo suggested it cost us a Grand Final then made a jibe at the crows. Was only a short segment on 3AW this morning. Surely we know that they’re going to take things out of context. Can’t Roo be a bit more smarter with his comments

No guarantees we'd make the Grand Final but for sure we would have had a better chance. Also that loss to Hawthorn and R23 disaster against West Coast did not help. I thought we were better in 2016 than 2017 but it was just awful luck.

Thommo was crucified.
Had a few embaressed Dogs fans at the game actively seeking us out to apologise for the lopsided display. As well as the result.

Everyone knew that one was dodgey.

Im sure its been mentioned but Pannell was a life long dogs fan, the AFL even were questioned by the media at the time and they dismissed it under umpiring professionalism. He was outright making decisions from 100m away, made terrible erros, clearly deliberate but the AFL not only backed him in, but gave him more games. No doubt either he was paid by someone or took it upon himself.

This is an indictment on the AFL. Sure at the time you cant over turn a game, however, to accept the game by Pannell, dismiss clear issues with his umpiring from that game is outright a disaster.

The minute you saw Parnell laughing as he plucked free kicks from 100 metres away everyone watching that game, even neutral observers would have to question it. I just think you have to come clean as to why Troy Pannell after umpiring 218 games, only umpired 5 finals. So did the AFL intentionally carry poor performing umpires to avoid publicly scrutiny? He isnt the only one, but its 100% clear the AFL had an issue with Pannell as an umpire not meeting their standards.

The AFL need to answer these questions.

Win that and we are 3rd with a Qualification final against Geelong at the MCG.

Win that and it's a home prelim. Lost that and our prelim is against GWS away.

Not unreasonable to suggest we would have given the finals a fair shake - especially considering what we did in 2017.

GWS would have finished 5th. Definitely an interesting scenario with 1 more win.

ahhh... the "Pat Jake Stringer on the bum after giving him a free kick" match.

My head exploded that day.

Yes, investigate
100% agree. I was at the game and I could not believe what I was watching.

Ironically it was the start of the Crows getting the raw end of the umpiring stick with multiple wrong calls and apologies from the AFL over the years since.

I made this FB page that day when I got home https://www.facebook.com/IsTroyPannellCorrupt and it has almost 500 followers.

When I had some people message me from it earlier this week about this scumbag, I was like finally, it's coming out in the wash.

Corrupt to the core, investigate the prick.

I back Roo in with this one with the Troy Pannell fiasco:

1. Cheating umps deserve to be punished. Even if the AFL doesn’t go much further (likely), Pannell is in the headline, adding further shame and public ridicule on a mass scale, to help relieve Crows’ and neutral fans’ angst.

2. I think this part is more the main motive - to put a pre-emptive strike to those current umps thinking of cheating or match-fixing, because they will likely be more on notice with our remaining games for the season.

—————

Just to clarify, I accept shit umpiring but absolutely loathe biased/cheating ones.

Shit umpiring = both teams get bad calls in similar amounts.

Biased/cheating umpiring = the bad calls are heavily skewed in favor of one team over the other. 17-1 isn’t just the issue with that Pannell game, but how many frees that were not called for us? Say Pannell had not called about 3-5 for us, this roughly translates to 95% favouritism to one team.

In most average games, even though there will likely be an imbalance, the free kick count might be skewed, but very very rarely more than 70%.
