Simmonds must produce some better results this year or retire.

for comparison;

over the last 4 years Simmonds avg's 15.3 hit outs per game

over the last 4 years Jolly avg's 21.5 hitouts per game
You realise that Jolly has had his hitouts stats padded for the last few years due to the way Sydney play, don't you?

The Swans have the highest amount of ball-ups/throw-ins in their game because of the choking style of play, go back through ANY game they play and you will see that a player on the other team will have 20-30 hitouts as well, it's because they have way more ball-ups/throw-ins that any other team.

So Jolly's average of 21.5 would equal about the same as Simmo's in a regular gameplan.

Sandilands clearly averaged the most hitouts in the AFL last year. Yet Cox is the better player. Go figure that one...
Oh; it's because Cox gets more possesions and more goals...hmm...

Getting killed in the middle by two "apprentice' rucks really hurt us.

Where is Simmonds at?

Another experienced player who went missing last thursday night.

The ruck division has been a weak link for a number of years and the future is not looking rosy at the moment.

If Troy can't lead and set an example for the young blokes (Bowne, Vickery, etc) then he needs to contemplate beyond 09, for the sake of the club.

simmo has always been hot and cold with little in between ...yep he'd need to improve plenty, was one of the worst the other night...couldnt do anything right

After a while it's easy to accept mediocre players and thier performances and talk them up, but when you start to examine a couple of the senior players and compare them to similar players at other clubs its an eye opener.

You have obviously convinced yourself, so thats all that counts...eh?

For what its worth HBK

RND10 2008

Sydney vs Richmond

Jolly 39 Hitouts vs Simmonds 18 Hitouts

Everitt 11 Hitouts vs Pattison 5 Hitouts

Draw from that what you will:o

I'm not saying that Simmo is that great, I think he has been fairly serviceable considering what we got him for(Fiona), problem is, nobody in our team is better than him at the moment(Hopefully Gus can show something this weekend and maybe start to overtake Simmo) and he is still one of the better ruckman in the league at the around the ground work.
Nope. He has done reasonably well in this role previously.
Yeah but...he is still injured and probably won't be able to play senior footy until most likely next year still.

Don't just give one match between them, why not the previous match as well.

RND 17, 2007

Jolly 16 Hitouts vs Simmonds 15 Hitouts

Everitt 17 Hitouts vs Pattison 6 Hitouts

Difference not that much comparing 1st and 2nd ruckman, but as I said Jolly get's his hitout stats lifted higher due to the high ball-up/throw-in rate, sure he may win some, but it will always be higher because of the high ball-up/throw-in rate of the Swans gameplan, simple.

no hes not, hes never been a big hitout winner ever in his career, his strength as a ruckman is hes probably fitter and covers more ground than most ruckmen.

If we plonk him fwd which weve done in the past, he drops regulation marks with his incredibly hard hands and the way the ball zips out of our fwd line when it hits the deck well lets just say we may as well have pettifer back in their bc simmo aint going to be putting fwd line pressure on anyone.

Exactly. Its frustrating because our mids rarely get first use of the ball out of the centre and thats what killed us last week.
Normally Simmo is good around the ground but he looked slow last week :(

Nope. He has done reasonably well in this role previously.
He played 1 good game in the ruck, for freo against you guys in a derby, and you think he is a "reasonably" good second ruckman? Even in that game he only got 7 hitouts. As a ruckman, he is very similar to Simmonds in that he is decent around the ground but pretty useless as a tap ruckman. And thats really the problem...even if he was fully fit would we really want a less athletic, less skilled version of simmo running around?

PS In his 106 games he has about as many hitouts as Sandi or Cox would get in 3-4 games. That says it all.

Seaby will probably seek another trade at season end. Do you think you'd look at taking him?
Honest question, not trying to troll.

IMO Simmonds' series of errors in the first quarter right when the Tiges were getting a run on, really sapped the team's confidence and they never recovered. I'm not blaming him for losing the game, but he failed to stand up when he needed to.
I had money on the tiges, sigh :)
