30 years ago I lived in Toronto for a year, so I became emotionally invested in the Blue Jays in the MLB, Maple Leafs in the NHL and went and watched both of them play, and Buffalo Bills in the NFL as they were across Lake Ontario and I got to watch their games on TV every Sunday. I did go and have a look at their home ground Rich stadium.
When I got home I followed them all for a couple of years but lost an attachment over the years because it was hard to get news about them and vision of them. I had my strongest and longest attachment to the Bills because Don Lane started his Tuesday night show on the NFL the next year, I was a big Jim Kelly fan and they dominated the AFC for many years, just couldn't win the Super Bowl.
Still have a soft spot for all 3 but dont get upset or excited by their results. If I had all the multi-media platforms of today, back then, I probably would have continued on following them with a high degree of emotional attachment.
I reckon I was a bigger fan of the national cricket team - went to Barbados to watch them play a test match - than Port, up until Port went into the national comp and over the first few years in the AFL transitioned a lot of that passion from the cricket team to Port.
