Which will be around 100 million quid BEFORE the wages start!

Crazy money!

So wages of around $50 million dollars a year and a transfer fee of $200 million....FOR ONE PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!
Really puts our whinging about Matt Lobbe getting 400k a year into perspective, doesn’t it?

I'm fascinated by other people love for sports teams other than Ports. How did you people become emotionally invested in foreign basketball and soccer teams?
A) Toronto drafted my MyPlayer in NBA 2k13 which is the first NBA video game I ever played and which was the gateway to me getting into the sport in the first place.
B) They’re somewhat similar to Port in that they get a bum rap from the NBA media, given that pretty much all NBA media comes out of the US and they’re the only non-US team. I like an underdog.
C) Toronto is the only NBA team of which Donald Trump isn’t president.

That said, it’s still not anywhere near the same emotional attachment as growing up a Port fan and going to watch them at AAMI or on TV every week since childhood. I’d quite comfortably take one Port Adelaide premiership over ten Toronto NBA championships.

30 years ago I lived in Toronto for a year, so I became emotionally invested in the Blue Jays in the MLB, Maple Leafs in the NHL went and watched both of them play, and Buffalo Bills in the NFL as they were across Lake Ontario and I got to watch their games on TV every Sunday. When I got home I followed them all for a couple of years but lost an attachment over the years because it was hard to get news about them and vision of them. I had my strongest and longest attachment to the Bills because Don Lane started his Tuesday night show on the NFL the next year, I was a big Jim Kelly fan and they dominated the AFC for many years, just couldnt win the Super Bowl.

Still have a soft spot for all 3 but dont get upset or excited by their results. If I had all the multi-media platforms of today, back then, I probably would have continued on following them with a high degree of emotional attachment.

I reckon I was a bigger fan of the national cricket team - went to Barbados to watch them play a test match - than Port, up until Port went into the national comp and over the first few years in the AFL transitioned a lot of that passion from the cricket team to Port.

Heard Rowe go on and on about the first game of the Stanley Cup hosted by the Vegas Golden Knights and thought I will have a look to see what its like. It was OK, a bit of harmless BS and it made me think is this what we are going to expect at Marvel Stadium when it cranks up?? I did like the "Lets get ready to rumble" guy - Michael Buffer doing his Vegas Boxing style NHL introductions.

I couldn’t be more meh about overseas sports comps. I “follow” someone in all the major ones but I’m that far back I need a telescope.

Pretty easy. Start liking a sport, over time a side grows on you.. the more time goes the more passionate you get. Its much easier these days being so much easier to see most sports on tv or online.

Not having a dig man I'm genuinely curious about people being in love with clubs that are ten thousand miles away.

Lots of second tier stuff here imo. Lots of songs better than High Speed Dirt and Damage Inc.

Orion is a good shout.
