So Bernie Sanders at 78.5 years, the oldest ever candidate for US President, polls very strongly with young voters, got 51% of 18 to 29 year olds in an exit poll in New Hampshire, as well as doing well Iowa and 2016.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg at a just turned 38 years, the youngest ever candidate for US President, polls very strongly with older voters, the biggest share of his votes came from voters 65+ years of age demographic breakdown.

Its a bizarre world. Then Mayor Mike, spending over $100m a month of own money on advertising, but not competing in any primary, until Super Tuesday.

Will be strange if it comes down to a 38 year old Mayor Pete v today birthday boy 78 year old Mike Bloomberg as 2 final candidates for the democrats.

A Mayor has never won the US presidency, well not someone who has only served as Mayor and haven't held any other political office eg governor, senator, congressman, vice president. 3 or 4 were Mayors early on in their career.

You know Bloomberg is soft pedalling so he can replace Biden as the preferred candidate, right?

They are talking about changing the rules so super delegates get to vote first ballot.

Sanders and Buttigieg would be political suicide. The Democrat Party knows it. For every person that turns up to vote for one of them, one will stay home in protest and two will turn up for the Republicans.

In what world is a sanders or buttigieg voter going to turn to voting for trump in protest to not being able to vote for one of the Democrats

the Only way putting up sanders or buttigieg might be considered suicide is that the republicans and fox will use homophobic fear or the sanders is a socialist lie as a lightening rod to draw out more voters.

The Barossa Nazi HQ. Were they diehard national socialists with all that that entails, or was it more a case of, ‘this is the flag and ruler of the old country now, so eh’.

Such a weird mash-up to look at.

Not really.

I'm led to believe from certain sections of the community that Australia isn't or wasn't that different from Nazi Germany.

Didn’t say they would vote for Trump. I’m saying they just won’t vote at all. Elizabeth Warren knows the score. That’s why she’s talking about how the party has to come together. But it won’t.

Sanders supporters won’t vote for anyone but Sanders, and people who aren’t voting for Sanders now won’t be persuaded to vote for him.

Unfortunately, Buttigieg’s sexuality will mean some people just won’t rock up because they have a moral dilemma over supporting someone who is gay. It shouldn’t matter, but it will in the swing states. It will be because of religious grounds - people like to pretend the US is a secular country, but it’s super religious still, no matter how much people try to belittle those who believe in that sort of thing. In God We Trust.

And if you think California and New York represent the views of the US, you’re sadly mistaken. They used to when Hollywood, fashion and the media could influence opinion, but their influence has been neutered. That’s why polls are useless.

“He’s right...I’m not Barack Obama...but neither is he. Neither is anyone running for President in 2020.” - Buttigieg

If Hillary Clinton couldn’t beat Trump, none of these guys have a prayer, because they’ve all got a fundamental flaw that divides their voting base.

He’s going to win the House of Reps and the Senate, and then you’ll have something to really complain about.

Lol. Completely unfounded. Sanders will absolutely demolish Trump in a general. Buttigieg and Bloomberg will get smoked. Biden and Warren are already finished.

Buttigieg is a shitty Obama who has reached his ceiling in the first two primaries and Biden's campaign has shown that democrats aren't that nostalgic for the Obama legacy. Less people will turn out for Bloomberg if he somehow gets the nomination (he won't). The alienation people would feel about a bought democratic nominee after how much momentum and money the Sanders campaign has raised would result in the lowest voter turnout ever.

The most sensible path forward for the Dems would be to embrace and weaponise Medicare for All against Trump, but the Dems are ******* corrupt morons.

The biggest dem voting bloc that won't turn up against Trump if their candidate doesn't win the nom are Sanders. He doesn't have the same problem Trump supposedly had (Never Trump Republicans), if establishment dems who say their only objective is "defeating Trump" are to be believed. I just can't see the votes falling off for the dems if he does get the nom. On the other hand, there is absolutely no chance in my mind that the billionaire oligarch Bloomberg beats the incumbent billionaire oligarch Trump, or Buttigieg has the political capital or momentum to get enough of a turnout.

reminder that janus has elaborate theories about how port adelaide are actually good at football and its usually just one small thing (chad wingard?) that stops us from achieving greatness which is right around the corner.

so i would take his predictions about the US presidential race with a bowlful of salt.

having said that, donald dump will romp it in no matter the opponent because we live in a weird hellworld timeline.

If Sanders would wipe the floor with Trump, how come he couldn’t attract anyone to his cause in Iowa?

What I mean by that is - he was number one in the first ballot, and number one in the second ballot...but the voters of other candidates that were dropping out didn’t funnel to him. They went to anyone BUT Sanders, which is why Buttigieg won. Sanders’ support stays constant, and it’s a large bloc, but the bloc isn’t the whole party.

This is what I mean by the Democrats biggest problem being the divide in their own party. It’s Sanders vs everyone else. For Sanders supporters, it’s Sanders or bust.

For everyone else, if it’s Sanders, it’s bust. You’ve got to remember...there are more millionaires and billionaire Democrat supporters than there are Republicans. They are the party of globalisation. So his wealth tax means he’s a non starter for them.

Buttigieg didn't win Iowa.

Buttigieg didn't win Iowa.

Only because Sanders pushed for satellite caucuses that only his supporters rocked up to.

When it mattered, and he was against the supporters of other candidates who could counter his platform, he couldn’t attract anybody to his side.

His strength is his weakness - he is uncompromising on his views. It’s all or nothing with him. That’s why his supporters are so fanatical.

I hope he does get the nod. I can make a lot of money buying put and call options on pharmaceutical companies with a December expiry - whoever wins, so do I :)

technically trump didn’t beat Hillary, or at least only beat her on the college vote or whatever it’s called again.

he might win again, I’m not underestimating the amount of morons that the USA have.

Why is it that liberals always think they are the smartest people in the room...yet they always seem to lose?

sounds like donald duck LMAO

That’s why it would be a fun campaign. You’d have Trump supporters on one side and Sanders supporters on the other. You couldn’t get more diametrically opposed platforms if you tried.

May as well have Trump over Bloomberg.
They will vote Trump anyway, but at least the others are an alternative.

Populism

The main failing of democracy (we have no other option) is that a lot of the time the majority actually doesn't know what's good for them or those around them

The Facebook and Twitter spheres tapped into this with a little help from Vlad over yon and that's the perfect storm

8pm train home tonight, a bunch of lads talking s**t all wearing the same Nike shoes and half of them without tickets get the inspector turn up. The mouthiest kid - yet to hit puberty which is common in the groups - could see the gig was up and was trying to get the others to "go see Bill at the other end of the train" in an attempt to double back behind the inspector. No dice, the others, laughing just said, 'Who the * is Bill?'

Couple of the smart ones managed to the same card gets scanned more than once (using an 'oh I dropped it' sleight of hand truck) which was quite a feat, but Mouthy just said, 'i haven't got a card or anything' and presented the photo of the McLovin licence as his identity. Hilarity ensues

This is exactly the logic people used to say Trump couldn't win. It didn't work out that way.

In a country without compulsory voting, getting 25% of the country to passionately support you beats getting 50% of the country to think you're the lesser of two evils.

The problem is that Trump resonates with the US more. Americans are all about being number one no matter the cost. A country that was founded on capitalism.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

In other words...buy low, sell high.

I don’t think that means what you think it means
